kewl, get some people who have experienced the game recently and know the modern game to provide input to the old fogeys. Good to see that we dont used a whole club of old timers without fresh perspective of youngsters.
Aaqib Javed is quite active in training youngsters in his own area and I used to like his bowling because of his ability to take early wickets rather than 2 Ws taking the tail enders. I think it is quite a sensible decision to make him selector of our cricket team.
POOR,POOR DECISION.AAQIB WAS NEVER A TEST BOWLER AND HE HAS BEEN GIVEN A CHANCE AS A SELECTOR.I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT SELECTORS SHOULD HAVE SOME CREDIBILITY BUT OH WELL,ITS PAKISTANI CRICKET,ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.
TRUE PAKI AKA CROREPATI NEVER DID ANYTHING.THEY WERE INNOCENT,BELIEVE ME JUDGE SAHIB,BELIEVE ME...........
Maybe Old Monk can enlighten us all as to how he arrived at the conclusion he did without giving any explanation. What is wrong with appointing a national selector at the age of 28?
coool.....
Frankly, I am surprised by this decision. Its not that the selectors have to be past 50 or something, but at this age, Aaqib should be playing cricket, and not be a national selector. Aaqib is still not retired from cricket anyway. Many of his seniors are still part of the national team, where he will be involved in making selection decisions.
Plus, its a good idea to have some distance between the selectors and selectees as it allows the selectors to make bias-free decisions based on merit and discourages selectees to exert pressure on their pal, who is now a selector.
Personally, as a player he always had a hard time to come out of the shadows of his more illustrous seniors, the W's. Plus he had a reputation of being unsteady and hot-tempered, examplified by his suspension from test cricket by ICC. Some critics claimed he was never an outstanding player anyway. But being a selector is hardly dependant on cricketing skills per se. It is to be able to spot good talent and making good management decisions to groom youngsters.
And lastly, there seems to be no qualification for appointing a national selector in Pakistan and basically its on the whim of 'The General'. Might be a good idea to study how other cricketing countries appoint their selectors and implement a just and reasonable system of doing such things. Making rash decisions one day and firing the individual after one disastrous tour is the halmark of our cricket administration and its time someone tries to get rid of this. Saner decisions are made by people who think before they make a decision instead of constantly (mis-)managing by hindsight and retrospect.

excellent..kia apnay zein ka review to nahee churaya hey
I loved the way he used to bowl, he was an excellent player.
Who says he wasn't an outstanding player? I thought he bowled preety well.
Similar to M.Sami.
Thank you, come again
There is a difference between a "pretty decent bowler" and an "outstanding bowler". I remember at one time, Aaqib took 7 wickets in a 1-Day. Thats fine. But how consistent was he?
If you want to know, who's an outstanding bowler, look at Hadlee, Holding, Lillee, Imran, Wasim, McGrath, Alan Donald. These are outstanding bowlers. Proved it with their records and their performance, again and again.
But just the cricketing skills are not the sole pre-requisite of being a national selector. Read above.
ps. M. Sami? :)
Aaqib was never an outstanding bowler. His main role always was as a support bowler first to Imran and Wasim and then Wasim and Waqar. In this role he performed very well.
Lets not pre judge him in his role as a selector. He might deliver the goods given the chance.
Whether Aaqib Javed was an "outstanding bowler" or not is besides the point... the fact however remains (as Pristine said) that Aaqib Javed in his new capacity is expected to decide the fate of players, almost all of whom are his former team-mates and it is almost certain that he would have his own personal preferences/dislike based on his "personal" experiences with them during his playing days.
A selector is normally expected to have a "personal detachment" from his subjects.
His recent involvement in the game as a player is definitely a plus and the way he uses his knowledge of the players with whom he played in the recent past could also be an asset. To say that this might only be used negatively is assuming a lot and is not fair on the guy. The current lot of "detached" selectors have not really done a great job in the recent past.

That, my friend, pretty much sums up the problem with Pakistani functionaries. Overnight planning for long term results.. humph.. I remember when Sharif mian froze the bank acct. before taking his money out, there were directives from State Bank almost everyday regarding the frozen accts. Superceding each other consecutively. Heck, there were more than one directives on a single day on few occasions.
Anyways, changing of selectors and Coaches after failure is ridiculous. A coach or a selector becomes a better person after failures and he can apply the lessons learned to his future decisions. Replacing the folks just starts a brand new learning curve and brings a new person to make those similar mistakes all over again. Besides, it further robs of what little credibility our nation, as a whole, commands in the world.
One of the big reason Aaqib was selected was due to the new PCB policy of hiring full time selectors … one of the few and rare professional and good decision taken by the Cricket Lords .. his credentials as a player (stats) is not an issue for scouting and selecting players .. all you need is good sense of cricketing affairs i.e. talent, technique, strategy and exposure to International and professional cricket .. which Aaqib has … it remains to be seen how it will workout ? .. patience is the key .. he is not gonna lay golden-eggs .. as in reality in every aspect of life he would have some bias and reservation combined with his experience, fresh mind … I think it is a step in right direction ..
Hey one more thing
These things are hard to explain
For some it seems strange... to swallow
The frontier of our minds
Is the last place we find
But maybe the first place we should go
Lets get someone who has nothing to do with pakistan or with hockey then

maybe some eskimo dewd. he prolly is going to be more objective eh
Gotcha!

Now I am gonna be honest.
This decision is crap. The whole notion that selectors are scouting talented cricketers is naive. All these selectors do, is sit around a table and push for their favorites. There is a big Lahore-Karachi tussle going on all at times and the PCB management just tries to bring in 1 person each from Lahore and Karachi plus a chairman in the selection committee. Frankly, 7-8 members of our national team select themselves. This way these selectors can each fit in 1-2 of their sifarshis from their city. Thats all. All key decisions are taken by PCB Chairman anyway, this includes captain and key players (like to keep Waseem Akram in the team or not). Practically, selection committee don’t have anything to do with them.
The biggest and longest fights in the selection committees are for including/excluding 1-2 minor players who should be part of the 15 member touring squad, and they won’t get to play even in the side matches, in other words, “joy rides”!. What rubbish!
If you wanna wait for Aaqib saheb to do wonders for Pakistan cricket because he is fresh than its upto you. I am outta here.

Fraud,
If u were playing to the gallery(like u normally do), I will excuse ya...
Ofcourse I had meant 'personal' detachment... If you are in a position to make/break the career of your buddy, chances are that you will let your heart prevail over your head.
Alec Stewart's dad (I forget his name) was in England's national cricket selection committee.. it is said that he often excused himself from the selection committee meetings which had to do with deciding the fate of his son Alec (as a player or captain).Thats the kind of detachment I am talking about.....

We oughta be Changez like, don’t we?
The Game Responds:
Both of them out of the team?I dont think so,Why?Let me explain.Aaqib has been a friend of Waqar for a long time, and both have very good history with each other.Where as with Wasim,Its the exact *OPPOSITE*.So my assumption is that the great Wasim will be ousted while the garbage Waqar will remain with the team.People,That Is All.
THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS CROREPATI,MILLIONAIRE,AND TRUE PAKI.I ASSUME ALL OF YOU RECOGNIZE THESE GREAT PERSONALITIES…
