Netflix

How many of you use it or think this idea is good?

For those who don’t know, this is an online DVD rental website. You register on their website and select the movies you want to see. They will mail you three DVD’s at one time. You can keep them as long as you want (no late fees). They provide you with postage paid envelopes. You return the movies by mailing them back in these envelopes and then they send you the next one. So at any given time you will have 3 DVD’s with you (max). And this is all for one flat monthly rate of 20 bucks. The duration of postage transit time is proly 2 days each way.

Just to give some additional perspective, a normal DVD rental from a store is for 5-7 days and costs $3.79.

The advantage of Netflix is obviously that you don’t have to pay any late fees. The disadvantage is that you can not just decide on a whim what movie you will watch that day. There are some websites, which provide a similar service for Indian movies too.

The question is, does this whole concept appeal to you guys? Pay fixed monthly and rent as many (with 3 max at one time) as you want without late fee.

I think I'd rather just subscribe to the Movie Network for cheaper. But then again, I wont' be able to watch the movie of my choice. Netflix isn't a bad idea, but it's not convienient mailing DVD's around (probably just the same as returning a film at the video store). I don't know, I think it would be more of a hassle I find. One has to consider how many movies they watch a month.

Nope, doest appeal to me. When i get a huntch for a movie i dont want to wait 2 days for it. I want it then. By the time i get the movie ill have probably lost interest. Im sticking with pay per view.

90 rupees for a dvd? or just a vcd? if thats 90 rupees for a dvd PM me the location.

That's DVD.. address for Lahore is in the PM

Yupp.. DVD's are cheap in Pakistan now. And the "region" obstacle has been resolved.

I tried netflix for about a month and then cancelled it. One of the reason is what you mentioned where you need to preplan what you want to watch atleast 3 to 5 days in advance. Not bad if you can spend time planning your rental needs for the upcoming days.

If you actually think you watch enough DVD's during the course of the month to justify keeping an ongoing subscription then I think $20 a month is not a bad deal. The catch is that you can only order upto 3 DVD's (I think) and need to return them if you want them to send you next selection from the queue. They also have a step down version where its 13 bucks and you cn keep 1 or 2 DVD's.

As for moi, the frequency of watching movies fluctuates and I just didn't think of myself as that big of a movie buff to mantain a DVD club membership.

I think Netflix is a pretty good place to rent the DVDs, It has a wide range of DVDs including the Indian movies. I used this service in the past and was pretty happy with it. Only problem is sometimes they will ship a different movie A instead of B and even if you return the movie A their database will keep showing that you have not returned the movie B (which they never shipped) and after a while they bill your credit card acharging ridiculous amount ($25) for the DVD B.

I didnt want go thru all this to save a couple of bucks. If you live in Bay area - Go become the member of the public library in your area and get as many movies you want for free.
