The monthly rate to check out 3 movies at a time, the comparison is as follows:
NetFlix: Pioneer in online DVD rental. $22/month.
Blockbuster: $20/month - 25,000 titles
Walmart: $18.76/month - 17,000 titles
Most people I know have Netflix, but thats primarily because it was the first one to offer the service and was the only one for a long time. Now, with these other options… which one is the better one.
The advantage they have with walmart is that they have some sort of setup with lots of post offices so when the post office receives the dvd back to be delivered to walmart, they send your next one in your queue even they have not physically received it back yet. It suposedly takes less time to wait for the next one to arrive. I've not tried that myself but their site states it.
It mainly depends on kinda movie watcher you're. With me personally, I need to have a huge collection at the provider's end since I'm an avid movie watcher so I've already watched lots of movies. Before I signed up with netflix, I searched for few titles at walmart site that I had heard about but they didn't have them. Their foreign movie collection is not that big either. Netflix has a huge selection so for me it was a better choice. Their foreign movie collection is limitless. But their turnaround time in terms of getting next movie in is not that great. It was a lot better when I joined but now it's been slackening a bit. Just today I was supposed to receive a movie but have not gotten it yet.
Don't know much about blockbuster. Are they offering mail in movies too now or you've to go pick it up at the nearby store? BTW, the total amount charged at netflix is $23+change. Although I don't think couple of buck +- makes much difference. It's mostly the quality of service and collection.
btw i find HEB’s new DVD dispenser the best.. $1 rentals of new releases if u return within 24 hours.. for those who don’t necessarily watch 30 or more DVD’s in a month this is the best deal..
I've been with NetFlix for about 4 years now. Turn around time is about 2 days which for me is totally acceptible considering I can have 3 movies out at a time. So I can technically watch a new movie every night.

so let me get this straight..if you rent three movies at once..can you just watch 1 and return it and order another one..by the time you will finish with the other 2, you get another one back from them?
Yup, its online (http://www.blockbuster.com), pretty similar to Netflix actually, with 25,000 titles. And they have thrown in a value-add as well… i.e. 2 in-store FREE video rentals per month (I guess for the totally impulsive time when you just have to watch something). Everything else is similar.. i.e. 3 DVD’s out at a time, no extended vieweing fees, free shipping both ways etc.

That is absolutely correct. And each one comes with a return postage-paid envelope in which you can send back one or more dvd's. so you never have to worry about running out of stamps or envelopes either.
