Netbooks

I’m thinking of getting the Sony Vaio Netbook .

***What are the differences between a regular laptop/notebook and the netbooks ? ***
Has anyone bought one and are they happy with it ?

Any Pros /Cons ?

Re: Netbooks

Netbooks are primarily used/limited for net surfing/ emailing...i.e minimal activity, therefore i would not recommend a netbook if your needs are more than the aforementioned activites...

I quite like the Samsung NC10 though... hubby uses it sometimes whilst commuting to work....

Re: Netbooks

Welll , i’m not tech savvy …as long as its lightweight , allows me to surf and email and most importantly , is pink …i’m happy :phati:

***On a serious note …how does it really differ from a notebook and which make is recommended? Dell ? Toshiba ? Samsung ? ***

Re: Netbooks

Check this out - some good info here. 5 top netbooks

Re: Netbooks

A notebook/laptop allows for more functionality....

E.G: you can install MS Office on notebooks, and it will run fine, whereas with netbooks, you will struggle, as they don't have a CD/DVD drive. you could install MS Office via USB, but then you have to be aware that a netbook is not designed for the performance requirements of the full Office suite and so its operation may be disappointing.

If net surfing is all you're going to be doing, then a netbook may be a decent option, else i'd opt for a laptop... they're just as cheap these days and Dell have some great offers. :)

Re: Netbooks

Get a Macbook Air ... powerful, Light, better/decent size screen

netbooks ... weak , fat, too small to be useful ... (better to get iphone instead)

Re: Netbooks

About 80% of the ppl who use a portable computer use less functionality than a netbook has to offer. So feel free to go buy one. I highly recommend it.

Thanks…will chk them out !***

i’ve already got a Dell…its just to weighty…i want something i can carry around easily

iphone :hmmm:***

which model woud you suggest Tofi ?***

I recently bought a netbook and was disappointed for the reasons mentioned above. I returned it.

if you want something light weight....i suggest getting the HP pav dv3. I purchased it and I am 100% satisfied with it.

Re: Netbooks

Sony doesnt call them the netbooks. I just ordered the W series for my dad yesterday as a birthday gift, half a grand plus tax direct from sony style. Its almost double the price of cheaper brands like asus, hp etc, but then again, its a Vaio and its the only netbook that has some style and class, as far as looks are concerned.

Did go through some reviews, and there seem to be no thermal issues with this series. Oh, and technology is changing a little, after the intel atom vs VIA's nano showdown. If its not urgent, hold off because acer's releasing its highly anticipated 11.1 incher in August.
