I’ll be travelling to Karachi in a few week and will be taking my laptop along. I was wondering if one can get internet connected to the laptop without messing up with the main connecting point (connected to PC). I can’t get wireless, but don’t we have a connection card that I would insert in my laptop, like we do with calling cards for cell phones.
I may not be making much sense but I was wondering if there is a way I could get independant connection to my laptop without messing up the main connection.
That device to connect to internet is called a "modem". Most laptops come with it built-in. All you have to do when you get there is get one of those prepaid internet cards and create a new "connectoid". The instructions would be there on the card.
Now please tell me where I can get this card from in Karachi and how much does it cost and what is it's duration (hours). My laptop does have a modem ofcourse but where do I insert the card and how do I get it hooked up to the net (what settings, etc.)
Those prepaid cards area available everywhere, check the corner grocery store (parchoom ki dukaan :)). Then you need a phone line connected to your modem and then you create a dialup connection. If you need even further instructions check the MS site: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305549&sd=tech
