Nepal strikes a deal on new cabinet

Looks like Nepal has finally worked out, the sharing of important positions in government or “Kursi”, the only symbol of “democracy” in south asia.

Disgusting thing is the Communist hypocrites like Prachanda now agreed to be a part of the government
10 years back, these were the same people, who rejected to participate in any kind of election and instead waged a bloody war which killed thousands of innocent Nepalis.
Unfortunately in south asia people can get away with such acts easily.

Nepal strikes deal on new cabinet
Mainstream parties in Nepal have finally reached a deal on sharing posts in a new interim government which will include Maoists for the first time.

Haggling over who should take the most important jobs was resolved when one of the mainstream parties got the deputy prime minister’s post, the party said.
The new cabinet set 20 June as the date for the constituent assembly election.
Maoists are joining the government under a peace deal that ended 10 years of bloody civil war.
The cabinet is due to be approved by the interim parliament later on Sunday
An initial deal on cabinet posts was reached on Friday, with the Maoists getting five ministries and the remaining 16 shared between the seven parties in the mainstream alliance.

PM remains
“The eight party leaders during today’s session agreed to give the most senior post [after that of prime minister] to the Nepali Congress,” said Amod Prasad Upadhyay, a senior leader of that party.
“We are all now heading to parliament.”
The leader of the Nepali Congress, Girija Prasad Koirala, will continue as prime minister in the new government.
The Maoists are getting control of the departments of information, local development, planning and works, forestry, and women and children.
Earlier, it was reported that the parties could not agree who would get the post of foreign minister.

June election
The constituent assembly to be elected in June will chart out Nepal’s future.
It has to decide, among other issues, whether Nepal will remain as a kingdom or become a republic, as the Maoists want.
King Gyanendra relinquished key powers amid street protests last year, prompting the Maoist truce. That ended 10 years of civil strife during which at least 13,000 people died.

Re: Nepal strikes a deal on new cabinet

Oh, thats a great relief for the poor Nepalese held hostage by the ruthless Maoists and victimised by the government. But lets see how long this new consensus/reconciliation lasts between the disparate parties. Inclusion of Maoists is an important step but then lets see how long they are able to maintain this fine balance.
