Re: Nehru in Waziristan

Good article, but what do you want to discuss??

Re: Nehru in Waziristan

I would like to know why Congress remained popular in KPK (former NWFP) more than Muslim League?

Re: Nehru in Waziristan

1-Good and old established roots of khudai khidmatgar, their visibility to public , their social work, their work in education field etc.
2- No significant presence of muslim league in the province even upto late 40s, either they were not interested or didnt realize the importance of province before 1946. 3- In 1946 elections, muslim league worked hard particularly in hazara and peshawer divisions. Although khudai khidmatgar won the majority but muslim league also won decent number of cities.
4- People of NWFP began to frown upon links of khudai khidmatgar with congress. Muslim league in the end became very active in telling people that khudai khidmatgars are on "hindu" agenda. Dr.khan sahib, chief minister of NWFP, his daughter married a sikh and it worked like pouring oil on fire, not just awam but many red shirts themeselves got shocked.
4- Other than this, some districts of NWFP were under strong influence of deoband for whom jinnah was a british agent and kafir e azam.
