Hi all
First of all i thank Mr Tariq Khan for helping me to register on the forum
I am from Punjab (India), was very much fascinated by urdu from childhood, as my grandfather used to write Urdu and little Persian (as he studied in Kasoor pre partition). But now when i am in a position to learn, my grandfather is no more.
But using internet i have learnt a lot, and also attending some classes organised by Punjab govt for urdu. Now i can comfortably readand write urdu.
But now the most difficult part, use of similar sounding alphabets like <se, suaad, seen>, <zuaad, ze, xe,zoe>, <te, toe>, <alif, ain> etc
I want to know what is the criteria to use these, like some grammatical rules? or some pronunciation difference? or simply we have to remember that a particular alphabet will be used in so and so words? and please also tell me if some book/doc or any other resource is available for this
I never learned those differences by reading any rules I leaned them by reading as much as I could.
So The key to learning those rules is reading , the more you read the more you learn/pick up.
So get your hand on all kinds of books in Urdu and read.
Visit websites which have Urdu news , articles , books and magazines and read them.
The useage of those letters has some correlation to the language those words originate in ... if they are originally Arabic words say them in Arabic and the spelling is a lot easier to decipher because each letter in Arabic is distinct in sound. If the word originates in Persian then you need to consider that there are more letters in persian than in Arabic and some letters would need to be considered such as szhe - I think - it looks like a re with three dots on it.
Yeah what Mirch said. The more u will read the more u will remember from which alphabet a certain word starts and then eventually u wont be able to confuse it with similar sounding alphabets.
I also want to improve urdu vocabulary, is there any resource for this, i mean where urdu words with meanings are there (may be poetry), and any good online urdu English dictionary?
