Been a long time since i have posted here as i have just returned from Dubai…hope you guys are well…
I am having some friends over for dinner this sat inshallah and the following are is what i am making. Would love to hear what you think? Any other ideas would be appreciated! I dont want to do pure desi khana so i am doing variety!
Lamb chops salan
Lasagne
Vegetable stir fry
Roast chicken plus veg and roast potatoes
Prawn Rice ------------- Would be great have some more ideas for a rice dish!
Dahi Baray chaat
Waldorf salad
Garlic bread
Maybe another salan - Kofta or any other suggestions? (As there is nothing to eat with the rice)
Naan and chutney
Dessert - i am making Gulab Jaman and lots of them too…oohhh Yum! (from packet though)
Please tel me what you think? More Suggestions would be wonderful!
Re: Need your Approval for my dinner party dishes!
All that food sounds wonderful but, thats a lot of food. How about picking one theme and sticking to it, currently You have Chinese, Desi, and Italian. I think the best dinner parties are where its not the quantity that counts but 2-3 dishes that come together, so your guests can appreciate the flavors.
Re: Need your Approval for my dinner party dishes!
^ i agree…stick with a few of your best dishes with that same “theme” If however you are going desi then I would stick with all desi foods then add a main dish on the side (from another cuisine) for kids or if there is anyone that finds desi food to be too spicey…you can do lasagna (or the likes if you want).
As of now your list looks too long and does really compliment each other.
Re: Need your Approval for my dinner party dishes!
i too suggested the same as other says, chose one dish from lasagna or garlic bread ,i think garlic bread goes best in tea parties or brunchs, can add any of kabab dishes such as shami, seekh rashmi or anyother kabab.and in my openion add one more dessert,u have one desi dessert and its dry,add any pudding or icecream type dessert.
Re: Need your Approval for my dinner party dishes!
Agree with the people above..it all seems so gud-mud.
Opt for a single theme and for example, if you want to go for desi, you can have
- one rice dish + any curry to go with rice
- any curry to go with chappati/naan
- any kind of BBQ
-salad+raita
-dessert

Dinner is gonna be for about 8-10 people and NO kids as it will be a late night...
Ok so what do you think now of the menu...

Roast chicken plus veg and roast potatoes
Dahi Baray chaat
Waldorf salad
Garlic bread
Naan and chutney
Gulab Jamun wont be dry as aaish said and i might add another dessert...hmmmm....
Re: Need your Approval for my dinner party dishes!
Hiya,
I think your'e quite like me when it comes to hosting parties/dinners... i love to have a range of different cuisines... one of my fave spreads is as follows:
Starter: Mini Chicken Vol-Au-Vents and Lamb Samosas, Chinese-style Veggie Springrolls with 3 chutneys (coriander chutney, tomato & onion /salsa chutney and coconut or carrot chutney sauce and salads.
Main: Chicken Pasta Bake (Lasagne style), Kofta Saalan, Zeera Chicken Saalan and a Vegetable Curry (i.e. either aloo wid baingan or aloo gobi) with Naan / Roti, Matar Pilau Rice, Beef / Chilli Noodles.
Dessert: Trifle or Gateau + Cake with Custard / Sweet Rice.

I'd keep the lamb chops salan (is that mutton ka salan??) and roast chicken and potatoes and the veggie stir fry (its rice right?) as well as nan and chutney. Waldorf salad sounds good....if i knew what a waldorf salad was :D I would take out the garlic bread and the lasagna and i'd keep the dahi baray chaat for a appetizer...
Re: Need your Approval for my dinner party dishes!
Totally agreed! i think one should have minimum of one salan and a rice dish and salad and maximum or 3 salan dishes, 1 rice dish and a salad, all followed by dessert of course.
