Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

Is there any one type better than the other? Any recommendations?

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

Stick with a fast one, Class6 or 10 would be ideal for the phone. Ofcourse reputable companies. Although there are some no-frills brands that are doing well in that arena.

I beg to disagree. Class 4 cards are even quite good on a super fast phone like the S3. There's a thread on it on xda...

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

What are these "classes" you talk about?

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

ok I just ordered two - class 4 16GB micro sd - from amazon because they were only $4.98 each (Sandisk). We'll see how they work.

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

Once you’ve used Class 4 for a few weeks try out Class 10 and you’d see the difference.

This goes on the same level as iPhone on Tmobile vs. AT&T. Meri na sunna kabhi :hoonh:

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

classes are the speeds of the SD card ( i think). the higher the class the faster the speed obviously..read, write!

try and play around with some different classes of cards (ask your friends if you can borrow theirs:)) then choose one you prefer. In a superfast phone memory cards wont make that much difference especially considering the prices...but thats just my opinion! :)

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

I remember reading sometime back that there were some benchmarking tests done at Georgia Tech and they found SD card performances in smartphones to level off at class 6... i.e. while there was a statistically significant difference in performance between class 4 and class 6, this wasn't the case between class 6 and class 10.

Also someone I know mentioned that a rooted android phone can be configured for faster read-ahead-cache which can make some difference.

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

One of the differences I've seen is when I'm doing a video recording on my phone. With a Class 4 card I can only get about 2 or so minutes at a time then it starts getting stuck. With a Class 10-32GB that I currently have i've done 15+ minutes without any hiccups. The results are amazing. I've actually uploaded them on YT and the quality is still excellent.

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

SO my next question is, after I've made my videos/taken pictures and all, how do I transfer them to my Air? Do I need an SD card reader? I think it already has a built in one, right? Any drivers/apps needed?

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

Install and plug in phone with USB cable
Android File Transfer

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

Thank you!

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

O yaar, it was available for dirt cheap price, so I ordered.

If your using chrome ( I don’t know if it’s available on idevices) just transfer files over the air with airdroid.

Re: Need to buy SD cards for our S3s

STONECOLD, yes I do have Chrome. I've downloaded the app Tofi mentioned, so now I have 2 options, that and the AirDroid option when wifi is available.
