yeah, but I think the package manager points to a fixed location, and only a subset of packages are available…how do I override the repository location in apt-get?

hmm, yeah, I guess they wouldn’t let you over-ride package manager. Must be something in the docs. Never needed it so never checked it.

btw, why do you want to add an IRC client on your VM box ? why don’t you use web based IRC clients which you can connect from anywhere and don’t have to install the client on machine.
