Okay so in reference to my thread in L+R i have my MIL and FIL coming to stay for a week. I am not the best at cooking but need to do the best i can.
so i am very limited with the ingredients i can purchase where i live. I will list below the items i can buy and please help with putting these together and coming up with sumat good…okay here goes
-Chicken (boneless and full chickens)
Keema (not the best kind of keema either)
Spinach leaves (baby spinach)
Cauliflower (which iv actually never made)
White rice
Potatoes
Aubregines
Peppers
prob few more veg…
i know i sometimes feel like im living in the old ages.
and to top it all off i dont have a oven. i only have a stove and a microwave.
Cook whole chicken with cauliflower and spinach - that will like taste the difference thing.
Boil the keema with whole grama masalas, ginger and garlic cut into small pieces, thinly sliced onion and dry the water. Then make masala mix with chllies powder, little garam masala powder and haldi in little bit of oil. And then add peppers.
Make potatoes and augerbine bhaji in panch poori masala.
Boil the rice to eat with number 1 and 3. Get naans or parathas for number 2.
iv currently moved to amsterdam for work and i have the very basics. limited spices and ingridients. went shopping yesterday and bought loads of veg, but i still dont have much spices. will be visiting the local desi supermarket later, hopefully i find something there.

Red Ruby, stove top is fine for all your cooking needs , you can do everything on it
Boneless chicken is the bestest thing ever , you can make it in many ways .. why dont you go through our Recipe portal and see if you can find some good recipes .. I think it will help you much …
Its on the top where you see the Portals Tab , click on it and it will show you the recipes tab , go there and search for chicken recipes etc
You don’t need an oven to ‘dum’ the briyani you can also do that on the stove, one way is to heat your tawa on a low heat and put your covered pan on that.
the tawa spreads the heat even under the pot.
if you don’t have tawa then use a metal lid big enough to put your pot on
i use something like this called a heat distributor
mine doesn’t have the long handle
Red Ruby- I was thinking about your problem I think you stick yourself more towards rice dishes because for salan type dishes then you will have to make rotis also. As far as I remember you have a toddler too and I guess things would be difficult for you to manage.

For white rice, you can make it tasty by two simple steps.
First soak rice for 15 minutes before cooking.
Second, add some oil in the pot, add 1 cinnamon stick, 2 cardamoms, 3 cloves, some zeera and fry for 2 minutes then add water, bring the water to boil , add salt, and add rice. When the water dries out, put it on dum.
Make sure the to take a small quantity of water if you have already soaked the rice, otherwise they will be sticky and soggy.
