need recipe for malka masoor

Can anyone give me a recipe for malka masoor. It’s black whole daal.

Re: need recipe for malka masoor

Here you go. I make my Masoor daal (yellow daal) with the same recipe, just omit the onion, tomato & beef stock cube.

**Malka Masoor Daal **

1 ½ cups Black lentil (soaked overnight or for at least 4 hours)
6 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon Coriander powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
¼ medium onion (chopped)
1 small tomato (chopped)
1 beef stock cube

1/4 cup oil
1 clove garlic (chopped)
2 whole dried red chilies
1 teaspoon cumin seeds

In a cooking pot add daal, water, salt, red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, onion, tomato & beef cube. Cover & cook on medium low heat for 1 hour or till the daal gets tender & the tomatoes & onions dissolve completely.

To add tarka to the daal, heat oil & add garlic, red chilies & cumin seeds. Let everything crackle for 30 seconds & then add it to the daal.

Gently stir the daal. Cover it & serve warm with boiled Basmati rice & salad.

Serving Size: makes 6 1-cup servings

ps you can add more water if you like “Patlee” daal. I like mine thick in consistency so I use 6 cups of water. Also when cooking for my own family, I only use 1 tablespoon oil for tempering. It doesn’t give daal a good “shakal” but its tasty nonetheless.
