International day’s celeberation are coming up this friday at my kids school. We are asked to share some food from the country of our origin.AND it has to be finger food.
I want some ideas.
I thought of pakoray/samosay etc. but then it will not be very practical to squeeze in the frying part to our already busy morning schedule.
I would make aloo cutlets and bake them. I hate frying as well.
Aur make some mithaii (barfee, kalakand) at home and just take it.
Make patties keemay wali and bake them.
Afia baji, make some chicken/beef/veggie pattese (sp) the night before or even today. The morning you have to take them to the school, put them in the oven to bake while you guys are getting ready.
I would just fry the frozen mini potato somosas you get in the desi stores. Frying them takes 5 mins. You get like 50 in each bag. They are really good and not too spicy for our non desi crowd.
Take flour n butter in proportion of 4:1 ....like for 400 gram flour you need 100 gram ghee/butter/shortening
add some salt (a pinch or so) n some cumin if you like.
rub flour with ghee n then knead it with water . Set aside for a while.
Now for filling I think it really depends....you can either use boiled potatoes with corriander, spring onion etc...or you can make your own filling with shredded chicken or mince or may be you casn even try mixed vveggies as well.
Once your filling is ready, roll out small balls of dough cut it in half making two semi circles from one rolled out piece. shape it like a cone/triangle fill this cone , seal the ends with flour water mixture n once all are in shape....fry samosas aur mujhay dua daiN :)
I know this is not the proper way of writing a recipe but couldn't write it any better.
Plus I hope you know the cone making part....its tricky to explain but if you really don't know I might try to upload some pics when n if i make samosas.....let me know! :)
Afia, I had to do a presentation for kids and I made basan coated aloo kay slices. I made them over night and microvawed them in the morning before the presentation. I also made yogurt chutney to go with them.
It was easy and everyone liked them.
