I usually buy my lunch and that’s how it has been for a while. I’m beginning to notice that it’s eating up whatever little money that I have.
A problems that I encounter by taking lunch from home are:
-I’m not a huge fan of sandwiches
-I don’t like to take chawal, roti, and the like
-I don’t like using microwaves at uni, as I find them to be dirty
-Lunch from home is that it gets cold and then I don’t feel like having it
-I like variety
I wake up just in time to quickly eat, get dressed and leave, so no time for lunch. I’ve attempted to take lunch from home in the past, but I’ve given up within days, as I got bored. I pretty much spend the entire day at university.
Try raw veggies and dip..it serves as a yummy snack and is healthy. You can also make a wrap maybe? Most good food would have to be heated up...why not use a disposable container..like the Zip loc ones...and just place a lot o fnapkins on the bottom and top of your microwaveable dish, and go ahead and use it, nothing like a hot meal. Why do you find sandwiches so boring? You can make tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad sandwiches with all sorts of salad and spices. You can also make grilled chicken..and so forth.
sadiyah i'm the same as you.. i hate having to carry foood around, even if its something I get frm outside but i cant finish it all..ugh..i just prefer eating out..its so inconvenient carrying arond a dabba n having to find a microwave (or fridge) etc.
I pick from above mentioned for each working day except Friday. Coz on friday I go to Jumma Prayer and guy there have different yummy yummy dishes availabe in Masjid Kitchen :)
{I just had labnani Kabob, cucumber sauce and chickpea salad}
As far as using microwave & fridge is concerned, just buy a pack of disposable paper plates and put one plate before you put in your food to warm it up (or in fridge)
Afro-Sheen & Decent 6chora, do you two have any easy recipes that I could try? I hate tuna though, so tuna's certainly out of the picture.
I don't see myself wrapping my lunch in kitchen towels or in disposable plates to use the public microwave. I feel it's too dirty.
Sara516, tell me about it. Actually I try to finish what I buy because I just love to eat, which is a terrible habit, as I tend to eat more than required. I work part-time and I feel all my earnings are wasted on food; therefore, I'm left with literally nothing to spend on other things.
In weekends bake chicken according to your favourite flavours like tikka masala or tandoori style and make packets in ziploc bags same like that make bake vege salad pack first in aluminum foil then put in zip lock also try coleslaw salad with bake kabab or chicken. Put in the fridge, when going to university pick one pack and thats it. You can make patties, chineese rolls and kabab rolls etc.
Sometimes you can find a place that does "pizza by the slice" and often that's fairly inexpensive but filling ($1-2/slice) or delis that also sell pasta salads etc by the pound, and you can get enough to fill you up for $2-4. Of course you can also make pasta salads, and then you can even eat those cold, so you don't have to worry about the microwave.
I have the same problem, i spend pretty much all day at university and i don't like using their microwaves. homemade lunches really reguire effort and planning, but like any routine change it takes a while to get used to it. i like
-pasta salads
-cold chicken/tuna salad
- veggies and dip
-fruit salads, with cheese and cracker.
- pita slices with humas.
Also i notice that i'm more likely to take lunch with me if i make it at noght and put it in the fridge.
