Oh, don't know why, Gina. I have attributed that to something genetic but my hair is the worst among my siblings. i have shoulder length straight black hair but they have never grown longer than that even if I trim it every three months and do the oiling routine. They just become lighter at the ends and looks awful.
Recently, they have started to fall at an alarming rate and now I have started using Minoxidil spray because the whole hair volume has gone down. I feel really gutted at this. :( I wear hijab when going out but lately I am glad that I don't have to show my hair.
Sorry for the elaborate rant but hair is a sensitive subject for me.
Hi Mahi,
I completely understand that hair is a sensitive subject for you. I know what that feels like. I would suggest that you go to a good reputable doctor. Someone who will actually take a blood test to make sure that you don't have a thyroid problem, hormonal imbalance, or anemia (because these conditions can cause hair fall).
A common reason for hair fall in women is anemia (low iron levels). Many women don't eat foods that contain iron and also they lose iron through blood during menstruation. Lack of vitamins B and zinc can also affect the hair. So, make sure to take a good multi-vitamin.
My mom had told me about a mustard/olive oil/methi remedy a long time ago. And I found it to be helpful. I had suggested it to a few people on GS and they found it helpful as well. Methi is used in some commercial hair-growth products as well. It has a warming affect that increases circulation which stimulates hair growth. This what you need:
Ingredients:
methi seeds and mustard oil (both of which can be found at local desi market)
extra virgin olive oil (make sure it says extra virgin)
water bottle/container
Procedure:
Don't grind the methi seeds. You will simply fill the bottle about half-way with the methi seeds. Then you will pour equal quantities of the mustard and olive oil on top of the seeds. So, if you use 1 cup of mustard oil, you will also use 1 cup of olive oil. It doesn't matter which oil you pour in first. Do not shake the bottle or the seeds. The oil should be resting on top of the seeds. The end result should look like a layer of seeds on the bottom and a layer of oil resting on the top. Leave the bottle alone for a day to steep. And then start applying the oil the following day.
You're only supposed to apply the oil to the scalp and NOT the seeds. The purpose of the seeds is to lend their warming affect to the oil. Gently massage the oil on your scalp for 5-10 minutes with your fingertips in a rotating fashion. After 1-2 hours, gently wash your hair with a good shampoo. I like to use Suave Clarifying shampoo because it gets the oil out well. Make sure that you're washing your hair gently even if you have to shampoo twice to get the oil out. Some people apply this oil every day, some do it every other day. Apply it regularly and inshaAllah you should notice a difference in 2-3 months. You might notice a stop in hairfall much sooner than that.
