Need help with hair!!

Hey guys, I’ve always had really long hair down to my hips and its been really really thick. Over the last few months though, down to stress and a health problem I’ve been loosing a lot of it, its practically half the thickness it use to be and its still falling. I’m thinking of getting it cut short to help it recover, can you suggest any styles? I’ve never had hair which is shorter than like…boob lenth.
I have quite a round face, chubbyish cheeks and I have a side fringe which sits on top of my right brow. What do you think will suit me? Pictures would be superb!

Thanks in advance x

Forward layers..

Re: Need help with hair!!

So sorry to hear about your hair, kurripunjaban. I would love to have long hair but mine never seem to grow. :(

^ Why mahismart.. ?

Re: Need help with hair!!

Oh, don't know why, Gina. I have attributed that to something genetic but my hair is the worst among my siblings. i have shoulder length straight black hair but they have never grown longer than that even if I trim it every three months and do the oiling routine. They just become lighter at the ends and looks awful.

Recently, they have started to fall at an alarming rate and now I have started using Minoxidil spray because the whole hair volume has gone down. I feel really gutted at this. :( I wear hijab when going out but lately I am glad that I don't have to show my hair.

Sorry for the elaborate rant but hair is a sensitive subject for me.

Re: Need help with hair!!

awwe..i can understand :frowning: same problem here..ab tau sabr bhi aa gya hai .. sniff sniff :bummer:

Re: Need help with hair!!

i am in the same boat guys :( dry, dull, frizzy lifeless hair.

:hugz: i have the same problem my hair just does not seem to want to grow. Have ur hormone levels tested and a blood test to see if ur lacking in any vitamins. Also after about 6 months of taking multi vitamins i have seen just a tiny difference (but hay my nails are stronger).

Mahi, def have u're hormones sorted out as well as alopecia. Many people that wear the Hijab complain of hair loss.

Massage u're scalp it increases blood circulation, I dont know if u take any vitamin supplements.. if u don't start taking them.

Stress is a major part as well mahi :)

Use a mild baby shampoo instead of any harsh chemical-laden shampoo's

Re: Need help with hair!!

seriously omggg stresssss. i started losing hair when i was 15/16, i had very long and thick hair too. it got to its min then remained steady until yearly last year and oh my god, i was losing so much hair! i was crying to my fiance about it all the time, every time i washed my hair.
got married in dec and since then a complete turn around! i hardly lose any when wash or brush, i couldn't believe it. even though i didn't think i was stressed, i obviously was!

anyway hun, just cut it to around shoulder length! it was the best thing i ever did when i was 19/20. if you go to a good hair stylist they can tell you what's best to suit your face and to give it some volume so it doesn't appear so thin.

Re: Need help with hair!!

Better check your water as well.. The water in my area is hard water and it was giving my hair as well as scalp a really tough time. I was loosing hair, had itchy-flaky scalp and the most irritating/painful of all, I had lots of breakouts(acne like) on my scalp. No shampoo, oiling anything helped..

So i switched to sweet water, that is drinking water, to wash my hair and the results have been amazing so far. Its been 3 weeks only and I already have a clear scalp. Also I brush my hair with a wooden brush for 10-15 mins at night on alternate days(basically cos i am lazy, you can do it daily too i guess).

Maybe you can set a water-filter at your shower connection or something...hope it helps..

Re: Need help with hair!!

hi ladies

good luck hope this info helps.

Hi Mahi,

I completely understand that hair is a sensitive subject for you. I know what that feels like. I would suggest that you go to a good reputable doctor. Someone who will actually take a blood test to make sure that you don't have a thyroid problem, hormonal imbalance, or anemia (because these conditions can cause hair fall).

A common reason for hair fall in women is anemia (low iron levels). Many women don't eat foods that contain iron and also they lose iron through blood during menstruation. Lack of vitamins B and zinc can also affect the hair. So, make sure to take a good multi-vitamin.

My mom had told me about a mustard/olive oil/methi remedy a long time ago. And I found it to be helpful. I had suggested it to a few people on GS and they found it helpful as well. Methi is used in some commercial hair-growth products as well. It has a warming affect that increases circulation which stimulates hair growth. This what you need:

Ingredients:

methi seeds and mustard oil (both of which can be found at local desi market)
extra virgin olive oil (make sure it says extra virgin)
water bottle/container

Procedure:

Don't grind the methi seeds. You will simply fill the bottle about half-way with the methi seeds. Then you will pour equal quantities of the mustard and olive oil on top of the seeds. So, if you use 1 cup of mustard oil, you will also use 1 cup of olive oil. It doesn't matter which oil you pour in first. Do not shake the bottle or the seeds. The oil should be resting on top of the seeds. The end result should look like a layer of seeds on the bottom and a layer of oil resting on the top. Leave the bottle alone for a day to steep. And then start applying the oil the following day.

You're only supposed to apply the oil to the scalp and NOT the seeds. The purpose of the seeds is to lend their warming affect to the oil. Gently massage the oil on your scalp for 5-10 minutes with your fingertips in a rotating fashion. After 1-2 hours, gently wash your hair with a good shampoo. I like to use Suave Clarifying shampoo because it gets the oil out well. Make sure that you're washing your hair gently even if you have to shampoo twice to get the oil out. Some people apply this oil every day, some do it every other day. Apply it regularly and inshaAllah you should notice a difference in 2-3 months. You might notice a stop in hairfall much sooner than that.

Re: Need help with hair!!

OK SO now this is a SERIOUS question of mine: Does hijaab really have to do with it? Because I NOTICED that ever since I've been wearing it I lost practically half of what my hair once used to be(I got the same problem as kurripunjaban), on top of that I got dandruff(which I am now fighting with quite a good shampoo even though it is not nizoral) plus it's SUPERDRY(I had once started a thread on it), plus my iron level is extremely low which is why I'm taking supplements. Now all those 4 things combined could be the reason for the excessive hair loss of mine????

And if hijaab is damaging(I know the ultra religious folks will probably say it is not) what can I do to prevent the damage? I Mean further damage I don't wanna get married and have no hair on my head :S
