Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

…I have been bombarded with exams and worst of all, I will be moving at the end of this month (to another country) and I need your help on how to pack my errr…makeup. >.< My stash is my baby and I really need a good way to pack everything without the pressed powders cracking. How would you suggest I pack? I was thinking of packing away the bulk it of (our other stuff is going to be coming to our new place via freight) and I was seriously considering packing up the remaining makeup in a traincase and hand-carrying it with me.

That being said, someone else said they recommend I pack away all of it carefully in a box so none of it gets opened in customs, or even worse some of it gets confiscated which never occurred to me until she brought it to my attention. What do you guys suggest? I could individually wrap each and every blush in bubble wrap and pack up the fragile stuff with a lot of padding. Things like loose powder, lipsticks, glosses, and mascara etc are things I’m not worried about.

TIA! :hugz:

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

Ok sure but tell me where you are moving and why you are moving to another country :D.. umm I just want to know.

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

will make up from one country work in the other ones without any issues? i would just dump it all and start again.

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

Do you mean customs at the airport or customs at the point of entry of your freight? Because either way you get it there you have the risk of something happening to it at customs...

Your best bet to avoid it is to carry it in your hand luggage (although customs could still select you to be checked on your exit from the airport in your new country)

If you haven't already- check with the customs website for your new country on things that are prohibited to enter the country through freight/shipping (often they don't allow powders and liquids)

as for how to pack it- bubble wrap sounds fine but it could get really bulky- you could try those really thin foam packing sheets instead

Re: Need help! I’ve been ridiculously MIA but that’s 'cause

Sent you a PM.

:hayaa:

DEATH.

Thank you so much! And I don’t think the customs would check our freight because it’s the entire content of our house so I highly doubt they’d go through a full container with all that furniture and all that, no? But I really like your idea of thin foam, actually. I might get a roll and start putting it away already. I was thinking of getting a wide cardboard box which isn’t too tall and stacking everything tightly so there is better shock absorption.

yes pal, look at it as an opportunity for a fresh start. and this time around, you can buy quality products. :)

:) :)

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

I like the idea of think foam packing sheets.

When I travel, all my MU is always in my carry-on. I pack everything nicely in my makeup bag, and then tuck that in between my clothes. On international flights....I carry my MAC shadow palettes in my purse (I have pressed pigments in there which are extra fragile).

But here's the thing......if customs wants to go through my bag and the MU....I'd rather they go through it in front of me so nothing is handle roughly. If you ship it, and for some reason customs decided to check the box...you will not be there to ensure that the product is handled delicately. And once something is broken.....especially with many LE products.....they can't be replaced.

I'm sure you know this already but document every single thing you pack! Not only is it important to have a excel sheel outlining details of each product you're packing (along with an estimated retail value)....but in your case, especially if you choose to ship it....take detailed pictures of everything as your packing it. Have visual proof that the items were in perfect condition when they were packed by you (in the event that something is damaged).

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

i work at a ups store and i've been told when people have "fragile" written on their boxes the people who transport them to one place to the other are extra volatile in handling them [buttholes!], as for customs, you ought to be safe as long as you have a package slipspecifically stating what's inside the box.

Re: Need help! I’ve been ridiculously MIA but that’s 'cause

np  like paheli said- customs could check the boxes from your freight- they may not check them all, but there is a chance your things could be handled by them and who knows how they “handle” people’s things :disgust:

if you have too much to carry on board- then put your most expensive/most favorite items in your carry-on, and either put the drugstore/less favorite stuff in your checked baggage or in your freight

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

M...you're moving?! Why?

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

Oh and to answer your question...bubble wrap and pad the heck out of things...they WILL get mishandled during transport and customs.

Re: Need help! I’ve been ridiculously MIA but that’s 'cause

Thank you so much Paheli, Luvblings, Blackforest and Reha!

Btw, you guys are officially scaring me now by saying they WILL get mishandled. =|

I already a keep a makeup spreadsheet which has everything from the shade to price and quantity. I’ll be sure to update it by adding in condition as well so in case it’s broken I can file a claim.

I start packing in about 2-3 weeks so once I do, I’ll post pictures and you guys can let me know what you think. Whenever we moved, I have never had this much makeup. Normally, a makeup bag would have fit everything in but my stash has grown not only in size but also in price. And many things can’t even be bought in this other country. :bummer:

Thank you once again! :hugz:

Re: Need help! I’ve been ridiculously MIA but that’s 'cause

Oh and I replied to the PMs asking where I’m moving.

Re: Need help! I’ve been ridiculously MIA but that’s 'cause

pm to me as well pulezzzz :@:
i feel like you are moving to my neighbouring country :hmmm:

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

^Done. :)

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

Put them all inside drawers of the heaviest piece of furniture, if you are taking any. it won;t even move.

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

^That's what I was thinking. Like packing all of it carefully in bubble wrap/foam paper and then placing it inside a drawer and stuffing the empty places with clothes or stuffing. I haven't started packing it as of yet but before I do, I need to take a collective picture for that makeup collection thread! >.<

Re: Need help! I’ve been ridiculously MIA but that’s 'cause

where are ya movin? maybe it’s near me :phati:

M, there is this youtube beauty guru kandee johnson who did a video tutorial on how to pack makeup while travelling. You may wanna check that out. It's a fairly recent video.

Re: Need help! I've been ridiculously MIA but that's 'cause

Agreed. Add them in drawers of your furniture and bubble rap them like crazy. I moved to the midwest from down south and even that was hard let alone moving to a different country. BTW totally off topic M, but why do I have a strong you live in my town..:-)
