actually i know an auntie whose name is Quratulain and everyone calls her Annie so i guess it's something desis do.

I think it should be spelled with a K in English. Desis tend to replace the sound of dau nooktay waali kaaf with a Q which is totally wrong. A Q must always be followed by a u or it won't make sense.
