Need Help Dealing With Kekhashan Kaamwala

Dearest Guppies, I am a long time lurker and first time poster.

I’d like to start with how great you guys are at compiling and sharing information! Pakipedia FTW. In any case, here is my problem:

I ordered a heavy suit with kaam on the border of dabka, kora, crystals and motis. I went to take a look today before it was supposed to get tailored, and they have totally screwed it up!!! Even the colors of the dabka are gross. I paid an advance and gave them fabric, and a color swatch, but they made it look like ulti =(

**My questions are:

  1. Can I actually get him to redo the whole thing and say, listen you can keep my fabric, but please make me another. Does that ever work? Has anyone ever successfully won that argument?
  2. If they just won’t accept that they made a mistake (“Baaji, sub kuch mein UNEES BEES  hota hai”) about the colors, can I just have the whole thing dyed black? Maybe that will also dull down the disgusting white and neon gold they used?**

I am freaking out! If neither is an option, I lose about $400, a lot of time, and so so so many tears. Now I am also worried all my other outfits will suffer the same fate, but I will tell everyone to stop their work right now and show me what they have. What is the point in them having those color “shade cards” if they can’t match it???

Re: Need Help Dealing With Kekhashan Kaamwala

Hello... yiu can always tell them to redo the shirt as its not 19/20 difference. Dont go alone, take somebidy with you. Also always tell them to dye the fabruc, go approve it. Take pic of the sample you're ordering. If they say, they need atleast 50% adv then tell them NO. Maximum pay these shop keepers 25% down and remaining once order is done.

Color matching is such an issue these days! Nickie nina, such a big name usually have color matching issue...

Ooops! Sorry for typos.
Also you cant dye the embellished shirt. It'll ruin the kaam. If the problem is just with the border then tell them to make a new border for you.

Re: Need Help Dealing With Kekhashan Kaamwala

argh, yes, welcome to dealing with karigars. i'm sorry :/
i don't think you can dye it all- i'm not sure how kaam will take to dye.

you should definitely go back though, with someone authoritative, like your dad (mine is excellent at bargaining), and have them redo everything to match the original image you are having copied. don't plead with them, don't be sweet, don't compromise- if you do, they'll walk all over you, so you have to be firm, no-nonsense and strict about what you want. if they say no, ask for your full deposit back and go elsewhere. this is where having someone to back you up works- and preferably someone older they'll listen to like a parent. plus, you don't want to be standing there being shrill - they just make fun of you then and take you even less seriously. its such an art form, honestly, dealing with karigar!

Re: Need Help Dealing With Kekhashan Kaamwala

Wow guys, thanks for the quick replies! Yeah, the main problem is that they were supposed to show me after dying, and the work wasn't even supposed to be close to being finished. Go figure, the one time they do something ahead of schedule....

In any case, they decided that instead of a barely there baby pink, they were going to use a pepto bismol pink. The border is what makes the outfit, unfortunately, as its front open, and has a tail finish. So even if they hadn't screwed up the color, the colors of the kaam are way off. I mean how wrong can you go with silver and gold???

Good call on taking someone else with me. I hope the kaamwala redoes it.

How much does kaam get ruined if you dye it? What if I just want to dye the WHOLE thing black? I mean, if the kaam turns black, or just become super dull, I won't have an issue, especially when I am hating the dabka kora colors! Better than nothing, right??

Wish me luck tomorrow!!

Oh, I forgot to mention...its an original, so no sample or photo. I just used a motif THEY had for the kaam/border.
