Need feedback from Medical doctors on Autism Spectrum Disorder/Aspergers Syndrome

I have just recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder/Aspergers Syndrome Level 1 at the age of 32. I am not sure what to make of it or what i can do to successfully counter and deal with the problem. I am attaching a copy of the report with sensitive parts ommitted. Will be grateful if experienced doctors over here can take a look and give feedback

I'm no psychiatrist, but @Hoverer might be able to help you?

Ah, sorry, not a psychiatrist either. (Might have to get you to work out my speciality, @NavAhmed haha!)

Where are you located, OP? What help and advice have you had so far?

Toronto, Canada.

  1. Cognititve Behavior Therapy

  2. Group Therapy

  3. Genetic Testing

  4. Reading the Book, Tony Atwood- Complete guide to Aspergers

That sounds like a great start. Have you had these therapies yet, or are you waiting to go through them?
What particular aspect are you struggling with?

Re: Need feedback from Medical doctors on Autism Spectrum Disorder/Aspergers Syndrome

They have diagnosed me with Autism Spectrum Disorder/Aspergers Syndrome Level 1 so it is definitely social skills, having efficient back and forth conversations, a more vibrant tone of voice e.t.c. Unfortunately the health care system in Canada is ridiculously slow, you have to wait for as long as 5-6 or even up to 9-12 months for appointments. In Pakistan if you know the right doctors, you can get appointments as urgently as the same day and people don't mind paying for that convenience. Like my Sciatica has deteriorated badly because of the slow health care system in Canada just to give you an example.

I feel your pain, we’re in a similar situation in the UK.
But that, unfortunately, is the pay-off for having an affordable healthcare system. It’s an issue of demand vs supply - in an ideal world the ratio would be the opposite of what it is now.

Having said that, the fact that you’ve been referred to CBT, group therapy etc is great. If you wanted to, and were able to afford it, I’m sure you could look into private services in Canada? I.e. pay to be seen quicker?

This really is not my area, so I’m afraid I’m unable to give you any specific advice, but have you considered self-help websites and groups etc while you wait for your appointments?
