What kind of price you looking at. Just had a look on ebay and this came up: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Motorola-SURFboard-Cable-Modem-SB4100_W0QQitemZ5800659138QQcategoryZ61822QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I think their in high demand as easy to uncap (hack) or clone.

Re: Need Cable Modem

Are you the same risc as the one on the fibercoax forums?

coz if you are,im really confused man,i misflashed my modem, now its stuck on the power light
i made a serial cable(and it was no mean feat finding the parts here in pak),but the max233 chip i found has 18 pins, while it should have 20 pins:confused:

temme what to do!,and does the phone cable as an alternative to the serial cable method work?

Re: Need Cable Modem

that risc is not me.

Anyway I think I get the jist of your problem. I assume by getting a max232 chip you are wanting to make yourself a Jtag lead. Basically a JTAG is used for debuging hardware have serial access to memeory and registers. Can manupulate this to flash in your own software to EEPROM. Another way is to get yourself a programer and firmware. I think the surfbaords have a TSOP44 chip which can be taken off and solderd back in easily by someone who knows how to solder like me or mess it up if you dont know how to solder. JTAG is probabaly the easier and cheaper option. I think some old nokia data cables have the Max 232 circuit already so it's just a case of connecting them directly to JTAG pins on modem or attaching pogo/adaptor.

Anyway why did you flash the modem? hope your not messing with config settings.

Re: Need Cable Modem

if u cant get hold of a max232 plenty of other alternatives which ususally can do the job. Quite hard to get the chip in UK now low production or discontinued.
