It would be wrong to say there are no side effects if patient co-operates !!! I had epidural with my first born. I was relieved of the pain and since I had a c-section afterwards, it helped that I did not need general anesthsia but along with this, I also had a drop in my bp and had serious trouble breathing after I got epidural. I cannot say for sure but may be because of my reaction, my son went into stress and the doctors had to rush to do the c-section.
Again I dont think it makes any woman less of a mother if she gets epidural (I got it myself).
OP: I am not writing this to scare you. The hospital will give you a list of all the side effects anyways and you have to sign that you agree with all of that.

Second trimester..personally I lost 6 pounds in first trimester, gained 16 in scond trimester n then another 7-8 pounds in third..but I was on strict diet in third trimester..if I was eating what I was craving I'm sure it would have been another 20 pounds :D
You may lose weight in last few weeks of pregnancy..very common!

im 37 wks , 3 days too... i gained 11 kgs... is that ok?

^ I think on average you should gain about 25-35 pounds. You're pretty much right on track.

Thanx everyone for all these great suggestion.
I am aware of side effects of epidural, baby's heart rate decrease if one has long labour due to any reason , I am just praying that everything goes well, I had a vaginal sepculum exam at my last appointment which was very painful as I am swollen so since then delivery fear struck me , i wasnt thinking about it before.
Also I packed a formula can and bottles just in case, Inshallah I'll try my best to bf .
@ nancy drew ... yes your weight gain is perfect and in normal range . I gained 25 kgs which is not healthy and i cant seem to control it

Watch breastfeeding videos..Read about BF, child's growth and the common probs faced during the first few weeks..do ur homework now..later u wont have time..i didnt do any of it so i suffered..after delivery whenever baby slept i used to seek help online and didnt get enough sleep..so b prepared..
As for epidural..i too used to think that giving birth naturally is the way to go..cause women who take medications during labour r looked upon and women who give birth naturally r praised..but after birth both r in the same boat..no one will remember..so do what is best for u..
For me epidural did wonders..my gyn herself said that if u hadnt taken epidural, yours would have been a csec for sure..
I took epidural 2hours before my delivery cause my gyn was late..and I couldnt take the pain anymore..but it didnt stop my baby from coming fast..

i started gaining weight after my first trimester......... i gained almost 2 kgs every months but all of a sudden at the end of 2nd trimester i gained 7 kgs alone in 1 month n thn i was put on strict diet :(

Hi biyya,
main thing to remember is dont stress about childbirth,with regards to the epidural i have had 2 sons but even though i wanted to have the epi i couldnt as i was 9 cm dilated before i felt any contractions.
the midwives advised having an epi would slow down contractions, i had gas and air but found that was distracting me, i had an excellent midwife who got me through by concentratingon breathing in and out.
