need advice...

I am one of those unlucky ones that have come out of uni as IT graduates at the worst time possible.

I,ve just graduated as Bachelor of Information Systems from LaTrobe University Melbourne, Australia. I,ve been offered to do my honours, but i,m not too sure if i want to spend(waste) another year in IT. I,ll b taking a couple of short certification courses from a pvt institute who then helps their student finding jobs. I,ll try my luck till the end of this year. If i,m still a lousy part time security guard by the end of this year, I,ll say goodbye to IT for good and might go back to uni to persue another career.

I was a pre medical student back in pak, did my Fsc from Cadet College Hasanabdal, and i was a gun at biology, so i might even consider going for a medical degree.

Right now if nothing works out in IT, i,m interested in going for a bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging from Monash University Melbourne, which is going to take 4 yrs… and i,m already 25 :-\

anyways, i see a lot of wise, qualified, and brilliant older guppies. I hope i can get some good n useful advice from them.
Is 25 yrs too old to switch my career from IT to the medical side?? wat wud u guys do if u were in my shoes? I must also mention here that i,m not too fond of programming or the development side of IT.
I,m even considering going for a full on medical degree to become a doc. but ppl think its kinda late for that. I personally think i,ll do it really well… but am thinking is it really worth it, studying for another 4 yrs, cos i,ll b close to 30 wen i finish.
Need advice.

first off 25 isn't old to complete your bachelors.. it's just not young :) which means that if it was a four years course from a recognized institution it was time well spent..

now for career options.. world over job situation is BAAAAAD.. so studies are the need of the hour..but don't redo your bachelors.. most bachelor degrees prepare you for nothing much but dead end careers in whatever field they might be in..

So assess your situation.. financial.i.e. (once again 25 isn't that old). and choose a Masters program of your interest.. also make sure you have your job market narrowed down before you pursue your masters in any field.... and also make sure you have your choice of region .. I dunno jack about Australia.. but if you moved to the US.. i'd say there is still hope for someone qualified in the bio/tech fields.. the key is to choose the good (read expensive) school.

Good Luck

I dont know where the world be after 4 long years! U have done great degree and if ur not successful in finding job now dont bet something in future - in some other fields.. try to get something in IT ..say try to get in business.. explore some thing in ur field..

Apply for 1 freakin job first and then whine about not getting it.

That Excom sounds good.

**Dear K-A-B

Let me first introduce myself....

I am working in a Huge Multinational. Database and Lan Admin. Forget abt the Qualifications I have...
I am in IT since last 14 yrs... :) but not contineous... I tried to change my field.. few times.. BUT.. No success :( I am 29 and still Single ;)

Any how.. Ur problem is Genuine.. To me... IT is the most Frustating Field of all... U cannot stop runnig, if U stopeed... u are out of the race.. this contineus runnig is too hard to continue.. It needs a BIG DETERMINATION. The ppl who are in IT will agree to me..

If U have interest in other field.. Wat I would suggest U should go for that... BUT... First.. U should think... If its not IT.. which is a good payable field... In wat filed will u get the Job for sure....? No one...

U have the plus in IT that .. u have the IT degree... and.. U can continue it.. Its not a bad field.. BUT very Difficult.. I mentiond already.. its Frustating... U will always ne in tenssion. But wat I think... It has the more Job Security than other fields... IF U ARE A GOOD IT PROFESSIONAL.
U will succeed in IT if U LOVE IT... If not.. 25 yrs is not so Late...U can change ur field....

I am sure all who read this will not agree to me.. BUT.. Thats wat I think.... Being IT Professional.

As per my understanding... I gave U some Merits and De-marits of IT.... Now.. The decission is Ur... :)

Good Luck** :biggthumb

well you were on the mountaineering club. j/k

I think PA's right. there's no point of doing another bachelor's degree. if a degree in IT can't get you a job (despite the economy) then an arts degree or a bio degree won't help you. Your best bet is either some college diploma or some professional degree/designation.
