Its been quite awhile since ive been on here, used this for research for my
wedding! and now im back!
basically i need advice from you guys, there was this plan in my head that hatched at the time when i was trying to get good pakistani clothes for my jahez sitting in london! And now that i have moved to pakistan, lahore maybe its time to put that plan into action.
Basically im sure many people have done this before, whether it was a success story or not im not too sure about that. Im thinking of running a website from which people sitting in the uk can order clothes, rather than giving them options and a large small medium size chart i want it to be perfect and tailored to there needs, so they basically tell me what material, what style, and exact measurements and i go out here get the fabric and get it stitched and sent to them. how does that sound? i thought of this because i wished someone had done something like this for me during my wedding time, as fashion in uk is alot slower and so not up to date with whats happening here in lahore! And for example a normal suit in southall, london that comes in small medium large is about £50 atleast and im talking about a chiffon type material with some kaam on, for eg panjaab textiles, banwait brothers all give suits for like £40-£60 if not more and dont forget thats just unstitched fabric, then also there was this shop i looked at in southall called dhanak, now ista pakistani wear shop, had really good clothes, tehy were available in small medium n large and i mean it was one of the only shops in southall that was upto date with pakistani fashion ( lambi kameez and trousers and frocks) so i liekd something whch was basically a purplish frock with some threadwork and some diamontes, i tried a medium on n the plates where abit wonky to start with however it wasnt anything my mum coundnt fix! so i was thinking of buying it and when i looked at price it was £80 just for that!! crazynees!
which is why i thought why not set up this website, it gives me a chance to make a little something extra on the side, its keeps me busy here and on my toes and its something nice for others aswell. And about the charges im thinking for a normal chiffon suit with threadwork sewed to ur style and tailored to your eaxct sixe and delivered to your door i would charge £40-£45.However nothing is fixed yet as im still not sure about this, which is why i require you guys to give me your feedback and wether there are any possible customers i could serve???
As for your idea on running a clothes business from home, you have be very sure that you can deliver what you say you will.It sounds easy, but if you have prices too low, then you are compromising on something else, like quality.
Speaking for myself.....I am happy to pay for quality and good service, but most of all I do not want to be chasing you all the time nor do I want to have to explain every single little detail regarding piping or finishing dupattas etc.I expect that as standard.
To tell you the truth I have been stung a few times, and have ended up with useless suits I can't wear or send back.I don't know how much experience you have in designing/making clothes, but you also need extremely trustworthy and loyal karigars and tailors, esp. if you are thinking of overseas markets.
When your business is up and running, can you honestly devote your time to the specific needs of your customers?...you will need to make separate accounts for them with sizes and likes/dislikes and what they have ordered.
Most of all,you also have to make sure they are delivered on time...
It will take some time to build up a clientele.
I hope you don't think I am trying to dissuade...your prices sound very attractive :D...and I would be more than happy to give you a chance if you are just starting out...but please do think about this very carefully.
As I said...this is just my opinion.
Wishing you all Best Wishes for a long and happy married life. And Good Luck in your new venture too...:)
Hi,
No that’s quite alright, advice is exactly what i asked for and i appreciate your comments and suggestions allot but it’s something I’ve given allot f thought too.I had initially during my wedding period in June/July 2010 thought about this only because i was looking for someone reliable who could be the middleman type of thing and send suits and clothes just the way you want but i never managed to have that as i was to wary of trying out someone that i got my clothes through my auntie and to be honest when i received them there i thought wicked really nice but when i moved to Lahore and saw what i could of got in the same price i was shocked as practically what i had made just 2montsh ago isn’t in fashion here so wearing it here is abit out of fashion. And it is upsetting when you spend so much money on clothes and they don’t turn out well. So that’s why i want to do this, not only will i enjoy it but also it will keep me on my toes all the time which is exactly what i need here! Life in Lahore im finding so slow, and my hubby is a cricketer so now he’s going to be very busy in his matches around the country so i can afford to devote all my time and effort into this so hopefully i can make this successful.
As for a low price compromising on quality, thats definetly something i wont compromise on, i myself as a shopper want a good price and good quality, i don’t want to be ripped off, and truth is here in Lahore you can get a very nice lawn suit, the latest fashion thats out now with the thread motif work on daman, the whole suit get it made for just about 1500 rupees which is like £11-12 ...and ask your self what exactly are you offered in £11 back there? I’ll put up pictures of what ive bought so far, most of the kaam suits ive got i’ll be receiving them in November but the type of latest lawn and cotton and winter stuff that is out now is nice, i’ll put pictures up as well so you guys get a better idea of what im talking about.
I also noticed that alot of the branded labels have had their near enough exact copies in liberty made, only difference is they are much cheaper, quality is still very good. So perhaps that’s something people can think about also rather than jumping to designer names.
Ok so ive had a long enough think now and i feel I’m ready to begin this so i’ll be making a facebook page, with info about my business and uploading pictures of the latest winter kaam available with prices and building clients and lets see what happens, inshallah all well.
Hope this works out! :D
If anyones got any more questions or suggestions please feel free to message me here or email me on [email protected] and i'll soon post my facebook page here once its up and running. x x
I Agree with Charmed, it is very difficult to please all customers, but as a customer i also dont want to remind you of what i would expect as standard, piping, double lock etc etc, i would be more than happy giving you a chance, so please start uploading your pics!!

yes thats goes without saying, even i when i get my clothes made i dont want to have to constantly be worrying or instructing how i want specific details, i expect that person to meet my needs and follow my specific instructions, only then i would be pleased, so i understand this and i know i can please customers which is why im taking this step now.
I will have uploaded pictures by this evening of some of the clothes ive bought from here and had designed, and stitched. So keep an eye out! :)
Well,if you're definitley going to go ahead with your ideas, then please do post a link to your FB or upload some pics here.I'll definitely get something from you because you sound just like me!!!...if that makes sense.
its been so long since ive tried uplading pics on this that ive forgotten how to do it, but its not giving me any option to attach any pitcures either :s hate computers...!
ok so its just something ive begun working on today as ive fallen ill since yday! Not finshed yet…still being updated but feel free to check it out…
hi rukz, congratulations on the start of your new venture. I agree with everything that has been said and charmed has given some really good advice.
for me its about good quality at a proper price. I really dont have a problem with vendors making a profit, afterall it is about running a business, right But what i object to is most is where FB groups are charging absolutely ridiculous prices for outfits. I'd love to see good quality replicas at decent prices. For me i'd also like to see tops to wear with my jeans (like the tops in British shops like Monsoon and Oasis), some good quality ready made options and also branded (nuklee or real) kapra like Gul ahmed, Sana safinaz etc etc. Do keep us posted.
