My granny used to say something similar too. I suppose it means not to trust the arrain cast. Elders had their prejudice, you know.
LOL I just confirmed from her. Thank god for whatsapp. She said “Never trust the Arain” I asked her why and she said “I don’t know, my mom used to say that” HAHAHAHAHAH Man
Yup, I could never help but dissect these sayings. And of course, after getting to the pit of these statements, I’d be offended by the amount of discrimination MY elders hold onto, attempt to argue it out with all my philanthropic spirit only to be brushed off by laughter or how I know nothing of the real world. Pfff..
I once argued with my nani about racism and to convey my analogy I asked her how would she feel if one day she woke up as an African. Her response was rather interesting. She said “There has never been a time in which a human being has gone to sleep as one race and woken up as another” LOL Nani jaan is pure gold.
But some of these elder sayings do hold merit though. The elders spoke a kind of truth which we cannot understand. Theirs was more intimate it was clear of any bias. It was more organic in nature. Ours maybe superficial and scientific. Theirs was more deep and spiritual. I guess they saw life more closely than we do. We see it on our T.V screens and maybe on books. They lived it.
