Congratulations! :bb:

Have you bought your jewelery, shoes, booked a makeup artist/mehndi artist/venue and ordered the invites?

Thanks Mahismart!

Really appreciate the info. Looks like im gonna have to do a lot of shopping around. Ive never bought an indian/pakistani outfit let alone a wedding gown my mum did all that. Im getting married abroad so trying to find makeup artists, photographers, all long distance is a nightmare!!! Got the venues picked out. Buying all shoes and jewelery when i get there. The rest will be a total surprise!

Someone bought me the Shuaag Magazine. So Im going to go to some of the shops listed dont have time to go to all of them.

Anyone been to any of these?

Just want something plain, fitted lengha with not a lot of work can anyone recommend a place?

Chunri Creations
Designer Dinesh Ramsay
Frontier - guess too exp looking at threads
Khoobsurat Klothing
Sahiba Fashions
Zedds Boutique
Bombay Trendz - too exp looking at threads

Oriental Fashions seems like a nice place to start looking at all the threads.

Off I go.....

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

oriental costumes is great! i got mine from there as well - so last minute as well!

Well no luck so far in finding a lengha for my wedding.

Does anyone know of any good Bridal Lengha Designers in Toronto with a good reputation ........

Oriental Costumes and Amiras Fashions both said they could design my lengha.
Has anyone ever had a bridal outfit made from either one of them or know of anyone who has.....

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

actually go to bombay trendz and tell them that you heard about their grand opening sale.
you should be able to bag a beautiful, designer item for around $2000 CDN.
dunno what your budget is....

Thanks Muzna i will give them a call. Only problem is i need one made within 7 weeks. I heard a lot of designers need at least 8 -12 weeks.

Just called them they said there grand opening sale was over 2 months ago. Funny i thought. They said they have large collection of what im looking for.

But from one of the threads in the Wedding section apparently someone said NOT to use their tailor. So i dont know if you have had any experience or know of anyone who has had a lengha made by Bombay Trendz.

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

No...I haven't had any experience with their tailor so I can't vouch for them in that respect.
What size do you need?
I would still go and see what they have in stock. Don't mention anything about the sale. Just go and see what they have.
If you see something you like and the size is close to what you could use, ask for the price. If it is within 20%-30% of your budget then try it on to see if it looks the way you want.
When they tell you that it will take 8-12 weeks for the piece to be custom made for you, look a little disappointed and immediately take it off. Tell them that you are sorry to have taken up their time but you need to purchase it immediately for a wedding that is 4 weeks away. Gather your stuff and head for the door thanking them profusely and mention to your companion, softly but loud enough for them to hear, that you should go back to the other store where they were willing to sell their sample.

See what happens.

If you end up getting something from there then let me know and I will refer you to a seamstress that can alter ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING. I promise.

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

why not get ur lengha readymade? I got mine readymade from Oriental, they tailored the size for me. Two of my best friends got their valima lenghas from there too. Some of them are unstiched so they can custom fit it for you.

Muzna, I went to Bombay Trendz for window shopping one day..nice stuff, but more "indian" designs and style. Not my taste. Also there are a bunch of stores on Britannia and Mavis, in the same plaza as Silver Spoon. I also browsed there when I was shadi shopping.

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

Yes Afshi.....they are definitely more Indian in design.....but they are exquisite!
I will definitely have one made for my niece from there and am considering getting one for Noor as well.

Many Pakistani families are purchasing from Bombay Trendz and taking the lehngas to Karachi and Lahore for weddings there.

It is a different style of attire for sure......not to everyone's taste.

Oriental has a good variety of wedding clothing. If pure Pakistani/Mughal style is your taste then they are the way to go!

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

have u ever been to Fronteir Heritage? They have such amazing saris and clothes! but hideously pricey! I fell in love with this green and whilte suit for my neice (she's 10)..it was beautiful, but waaay too much! lol. i should get her mom to buy it.

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

Actually I have a personal relationship at Frontier.... LOL...... uncle delivers the saris that I purchase from him to my home. He lives at the south side of Heatherleigh so its convenient.

They are pricey for their suits.....but I've been buying there for about 7 years so I've managed to work up a pretty decent discount with them.

Let me know if you ever want something from there.....we can go together.....which reminds me, I have a suit for Noor and a sari of mine waiting there. Need to go soon.

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

he lives on our street? ha ha. small world. hubby bought a couple of saris from there when i got married...love them! I'm looking for a plainer printed with slight embellishments sari...somethign I could wear to a dawat. I would love to go with you! My MIL thinks I need more saris. lol.

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

MIL is right. Everyone always needs more saris. LOL.
yeah...he lives on Heatherleigh but from the south side...near Eglinton......not on our side.
we definitely need to go there together.

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

Ashes,

If you want to check out Frontier for wedding lehngas then we can go together or meet up there.

They do have some really nice designs on ready made stuff and they also do alterations to adjust for fittings.

Let me know.

LOL!!! You are so funny with respects to Bombay Trendz. I would never have thought of that. I will go there this weekend and have a look. Take my mum along. I have sent you a PM.

Well I finally bought a lengha. I bought it from, yes, Gerrard st. the last place I ever thought I'd find something. I bought it from a store called Chandan Fashions. They have the most beautiful, classy, elegant lenghas I have ever seen. In all colors from the lightest to the darkest. They also custom and can have a gown ready in 2 months.

I went to Bombay Trendz - not my style

Frontier Heritage - there lenghas are nice but they only carry dark colors. Nothing in the light shades. Very heavy embroidery.

Kohinoor - waste of time!!

Oriental Designs - there gowns are nice they have a variety of colors but nothing in the lightest shades. Very heavy embroidery. If you like pakistani gowns then that's the place to go. The lady is very nice. I was going to have my gown made by her. She said she could have it ready in 6 week guaranteed. But I didn't want to take any chances.

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

yay! thats great that you got something you liked!

Re: Need a Indian Wedding Gown in Toronto ASAP

For Bombay Trendz, if you like their clothes, go ahead and buy it but don't use their tailor. Her name is DAISY. Stay away from her. But if they use another tailor, then you can use them. Or go to a private tailor. There is a great Pakistani lady named Humeira who lives in Brampton and does fantastic tailoring/alterations and is able to sew saree blouses, belts with pleats and it's not unprofessional looking or messy. She has a degree from Lahore in tailoring and now does work on the side.
