So, why are we sometimes amused by people who follow their religion closely…who advise things that are emphasized in religion…that (deep down) we may know are right? I wonder about that sometimes…and yes, I’m guilty of it too. Discuss.

Because you know you're wrong and people literally catch you off guard. Now, your defenses kick-in, so they get mad.
I remember I got a response from one of my friend, "Don't teach me about my religion."
Maybe, just a very poor way of justify your sins to yourself just to please your nafs.
Not everyone is like that, though. Some actually want to listen and appreciate your advising them.
