Necessary reading for ABCDs

Al-Qaeda by Jason Burke - Just read the first two chapters. Not even the entire book. It will give you a very decent summary on Islam and Jihad.

Best part is it is written by a white christian. So you will accept without your usually ***** fit.

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

i haven't read it yet but doesn't jihad mean striving, struggling to be good muslims in the eyes of Allah? still in the process of learning

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

You're cute when you pass vast generalizations =]

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

Aww thank you.

Jihad has many meanings and it depends on the circumstances. The first from of Jihad is that to struggle against oneself. Where you act like a better Muslim where you believe Allah's will is paramount. The second is that of a defensive battle when the Muslim Ummah is under siege.

:k:

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

:k:

now if only more non abcd folks understood that, the world would be such a better place.

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

Forget it. ABCDs won't learn.

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

Err you might want to rephrase that. Why don’t you do a Google News search with terms such as Jihadi, Attempted terror plot, Terrorist, Bomber, Suicide attack, etc.. etc… Its the Western Asians who come up the most.

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

"Al-Qaeda"

Thats where I stopped reading man....God bless you and everyone who is involved in discussing this fasad. :)

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

err, no..

western asians come up the most for local news..non western asians would need to get a visa to get here. plus the term used was abcd..not those in the west. some paindoo or tribal assclown who just fell off a turnip truck in jersey is not an abcd.
most of the 'western' idiots who have been in the news were not born in the west, or had some evil eastern mullah as their chief corrupter.

inspired and brainwashed by whom? trained where and by whom?
the radical loudmouths like finsbury park idiot, coming from where.
while this virus has spread to the idiots who are foreign born as well..the majority of this crap squarely rests with your local idiots over there.
Those idiots who make it over here then go on corrupting impressionable fools here.

Plus why is your definition of this ridiculous interpretation of 'jihad' limited to attacks in the west only?
the sipah e sahaba and lashkar e jhangvi morons killing shias over decades think they are doing jihad, and vice versa.
the champions in bombay, the 9/11 folks, the entire leadership of hamas, hizbullah, the abu nidals and osamas of the world.

and its the abcds who apparently have a misunderstanding of what jihad is supposed to be?

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

lol.. someone has ABCD issues, and is using al qaeda as a posturing tool. i give this a 3 out of 10.

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

lol X2

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

what decides this though? why has Allah left such a big decision to us human beings ones he has made so imperfect and mistake prone, how can a good muslim judge this properly.

people would always be on the defensive wouldn't they?

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

I hope someone answers this ^^^accurately, even some verses in the quran are like this and unless there is guidance by a learned muslim scholar, some of those verses from the quran can be taken out of context and totally misunderstood by the layman reading

or do I as a reader, interpret those verses the way i want to.

Re: Necessary reading for ABCDs

The beauty of the book is that it is a fascinating read. More so it covers issues from an Islamic perspective by a white guy that most Muslims do not know (This website is such a case).

As for your question. Who decides this? Usually the people under siege. You have to be part of the community to understand the feelings. Its like the Kurds in Iraq. Even after 20 years since the massacre under Saddam they do feel they are under siege. Why do you think after WW2 the Jewish people feel and still to this day feel that they are being persecuted. Why do you think they bring up the issue of Anti-antisemitism on issues related to Zionism. Yes part of it is a political ploy but there are underlying factors and concerns that have been breed into the psyche for decades.

The decision is left to man as it is stated in the Quran (I paraphrase) the right path is shown and you know where it is. It is but for you to get there. Additionally the most fundamental belief of Islam is that everything happens due to Allah's will. Sovereignty over life and this world belongs with him.

In the Quran there are certain verses known as the Sword veres in English. These are the ones terrorists and Islamic socio-political groups use to support their claim to an over throw of the current despotic regimes in the Middle East.

And I am gonna quote from the Book now because it explains this issue of interpretation better than I can. Page 28 first Paragraph
...The core texts of the Quran and Hadith are thus 'closed' in that they are unchangeable, but also 'open' in that they are infinitely flexible, providing answers in principle to all questions of behavior in all times.
In essence Muslims believe that the Quran and Hadith can not be changed and thus are perfect in their form and apply to all aspects of life regardless of the time period. Additionally Islam does not have an established clergy, specifically to ensure that Islam does not become what Christianity has become.
