NC42

So Dallas is out of NC42 in prolong wear! I tried 3 different stores and they were all out, and had no clue when they will be getting it again (I hope its not discontinued). I’m an NC40 in winters, but this heat has me tanned. So I told the lady to give me NC42 in Studio fix, and its TOO DARK? How does that happen? And I hate the studio fix formula, it breaks me out and is really greasy. Suggest me some good dupes in NC42 shade in other brands, as I want something on the Matte side!

Re: NC42

Why don't you order from the MAC site?

Re: NC42

^Yup, and check online for free shipping promo codes.

Re: NC42

its not available online either. Prolong wear and matchmaster are both unavailable for some time, i believe they are redoing the packaging.

Re: NC42

I don't like studio fix - it is too dewy for me. I bought a case and now everytime I use it I always make sure I apply tonnes of powder over it to stop my face from looking I'm all sweaty.

Studio tech has heavier coverage than Studio fix, but has a matter finish so would definitely recommend that.

Also, Bobbi Brown do these foundation sticks - they've very very heavy coverage but I guess if you used a brush to apply and blended all over you could make it light. I think for an NC42 you would probably be shades 4 to 4.5? Don't have much experience with BB so try in store first!

Re: NC42

uhhhmmm... hold on. I just re-read all the posts again and realised I don't know what you're talking about - dallas, matchmaster and prolong wear?? I read NC42 so assumed you're talking about MAC foundation shade NC42 - right? If not...then just ignore my previous post lol

Re: NC42

Estee Lauder Double Wear is also pretty matte..

Re: NC42

MAC shades can be different depending on the foundation type. I'm NC42 in Studio Fix....but I had gotten a sample of another one (forgot the name) in which I was NC40.

For what its worth....I currently have MUFE HD in 153 & NARS Sheer Glow in Barcelona. I also tried and loved Lancome Teint Miracle in Bisque 7.

I loved the look/feel of Estee Lauder Double Wear but was not able to find a good match (all the undertones were pink).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong in this....but don't the MAC Pro Stores take orders by phone? If so then maybe OP can try calling pro stores outside her city...

Re: NC42

^ Yea, NC42 in studio fix is too dark for me. I have a very desi skin tone if you know what I mean. Are you also NC42 ? I will def go try the MUFE foundation in 153 (its more money than mac though Crap!). Nars foundations look really dusty on me. No breakouts from MUFE right?
Oh and Estee lauder as well! suggest me shades, because I hate the annoying ladies at the counter, they always give me the wrong shade and have no clue about desi tones.
Thanks you guys.

lil ash.

Re: NC42

Yes I’m NC42 in Studio Fix. I used this for several years in my early 20’s when my skin was oily/acne prone. But then all of a sudden, one day this started looking cakey and my skin also became combo. The last time I was at MAC and tried foundations was when Matchmaster came out. At that time, I was matched NC40 to either ProLong Wear or Matchmaster (don’t remember which one). BTW, I had a severe allergic reaction to Studio Tech while I tried it on inside the mall! :bummer:

The MUFE HD, NARS, and Lancome I listed above are my current shades (no breakouts from them). I think our skin tones are very similar but that should give you an idea as to where to start. For me Estee Lauder shades didn’t work b/c of their pink undertones but it won’t hurt you to try.

Just go through Sephora and Macy’s and get samples of several different ones. At my Sephora, the sweet sales girl literally walked me through every single brand they carry to try to find me a match since I have a difficult time with my skin. Try the samples at least 2-3 times at home…during the day and night…and also take pics. I drove my hubby crazy with my “search” for almost 3 weeks. :halo: You may also want to look into Chanel (I used this years ago BEFORE I started using MAC…switched to MAC b/c of the price).

Yep…all these are more $$ than MAC but honestly…foundation makes such a big diffrence that I think this is one thing that’s worth splurging on. And as I said before, call the other pro stores and see if they’ll let you place a order over the phone (if they have it in stock).
