NBA

Re: NBA

WOAH!!!!!!!!

Lakers doing nicely. With tough schedule, they're still 5-3, tiecd for 6th in the conference table.

The bench has been terrific, Lamar looks good and Radmanovic has a 3 pt % that looks like a dunking %.

Now just get Kwame the hell out and all will be good.

Re: NBA

Great win by Lakers over Pistons. Bryant poured his heart out. Mavs also defeated Spurs, who than beat Rockets in another great game. Kevin Durant hits his first buzzer beater, while Dwyane Wade missed as Celtics remain undfeated.

Re: NBA

Celtics are 8-0 for the first time in 35 years. Tells you something how much they have sucked over the years

Re: NBA

I think Finals would be between Nuggets and Celtics.

Re: NBA

Celtics will fold sooner or later. They are just one twisted ankle away from mediocrity. Any of the big three goes down, their lack of depth will start to come forth.

With that said, 8-0 is highly impressive. I don't think anyone expected them to get off such a cracking start.

Re: NBA

Like the Indians.. fortunately the Indians are not 8-0!

Re: NBA

It is as simple as this.

If Lebron gets his FT% up, he will become the greatest basketball player to ever walk the planet.

Re: NBA

LOL. Thanks for the laugh man. Right now, he does not even deserve to be in the same area code as Michael Jordan. He would need to raise his FT% up to a 100% and take about 30 free throws in a game to be considered nearly as productive as MJ.

Re: NBA

Please don't tell me you're one of the MJ obsessive fanatics. Lebron, not even 23 yet, has achieved what Jordan never even dreamed about at the same age.

Lebron is bigger and stronger than Jordan. He grabs more boards, involves his teammates nicely and carries an otheriwse crap team. When he went off against the Pistons, we all saw what happened. He, at 22, is holding together an NBA franchise. Unbelievable.

I'll admit, he does need to win a ring but that'll come in time. He has already taken his side to the NBA Finals and do I need to remind you of Game 5 against the Pistons?

His 3-pt shooting is better than Jordan's and if he gets that FT% up to say 80, he will be the best ever.

Re: NBA

LOL, you're havin' a laugh. Lebron is not even fit to hold MJ's jock. Heck, Kobe Bryant, who is clearly better than Lebron, is not on MJ's level either. Check out Mike's stats from his first four seasons:

Year Usg ORat DRat
84-85 31.4 118 107
85-86 40.4 109 107 ----- missed around 65 games due to injury
86-87 39.8 117 104
87-88 35.2 123 101

Now check Lebron's stats over his first four seasons:

Year Usg ORat DRat
03-04 26.9 99 104
04-05 28.8 114 103
05-06 31.4 115 104
06-07 29.7 112 100

(Usg is the percentage of possession while the player is on the floor, ORat is the points produced per 100 individual possessions while DRat is the points allowed per 100 opposition possessions)

After looking at those stats, how can you say than Lebron has achieved so far what MJ can't even dream of? The differences in rebounds and assists per game is negligible, as it is easily off-set by Jordan's superiority on steals, blocks and assist/turnover ratio.

In short, Jordan was an offensive juggernaut who could dominate the game against ANY team. Lebron has not proved anything yet.

Re: NBA

You're forgetting one thing. Jordan came into the league several years later and had time in college to adjust. LEbron, though, jumped in straight from high school.

The next five or so years are going to prove me right. It's not like I'm saying he is already Jordan, I said he will become greater than Jordan, and no-one can argue with that.

Do me a favour, and reproduce those numbers with comparisons of age?

Let's see what Jordan did from 18-22, and what Lebron has done.

Re: NBA

Sure thing. Here are Jordan's stat line from his first year in the NBA (age 21), compared to Lebron's stats from his most recent full season stats, that being last year when he was 22 (a year older than Jordan when he was a rookie)

Jordan

Year Usg ORat DRat
84-85 31.4 118 107

James

Year Usg ORat DRat
06-07 29.7 112 100

So as you can see, Jordan was being trusted with more offensive load in his rookie year than Lebron was in his fourth year as an NBA professional. Not to mention Jordan still managed to post an offensive rating of 118, which is truly mind boggling.

I'm not denying that Lebron is a great player. But the constant claims of him being better than Jordan have to stop. He has not proved anything of that sorts (atleast not yet), nor do I expect him to do so in the future. Its just not possible. Its kinda like people comparing Sidney Crosby with Wayne Gretzky. Both Gretz and Mike have set the bar so high in their respective sports that you would need to perform as the best player in the league for more than a decade in order to surpass them. Lebron has not even been the best player in the league for a single year now. He still has 10-12 good years in him, in which it would be physically possible for him to dominate the league like Mike, but I just don't see him doing it.

Re: NBA

Look, I do see your point. And no-one can argue that MJ was an absolute phenomenon. What he did for the NBA, no player in history ever has.

But Lebron has time on his hands and what do you mean he has not proved anything? Taking a sub-par team to the NBA Finals is quite an accomplishment.

The feeling I have about Lebron is a bit of a gut feeling more than anything else. Only time will tell which one of us is right, and chances are that it is probably you. But the possibilities for Lebron are immense.

**PS: **It was a nice debate with you, I'm Kool. Unlike a lot of others I have had this conversation with, you clearly know what you're talking about and have a pretty good understanding of the game.

And finally, this thread rose from the dead.

WHERE THE HELL IS EVERYONE ELSE?

Re: NBA

Eastern Conference

Celtics are still going strong with 14-2. Toronto is 10-8, Detroit and Orlando are leading their respective divisions. Despite James extraordinary efforts, Cleveland is 9-10. Miami Heat are at the bottom with 4-13, looks like Wade and O'Neil have lost their touch. Heat is not motivated and have lost 3 straight. Unless they make some drastic changes in personal and attitude, team is unlikely to be a threat like they were few seasons ago.

Western Conference

You have to take a look at Southwest Division to understand what's at stake here. San Antonio, New Orleans, Dallas and Houston are jam packed competing for top spot. Rockets are 9-9 behind Dallas, New Orleans and San Antonio.

Utah, Denver, Phoenix and LAL are having a great season. Lakers are surprisingly doing well. Knowing how tough their division and Western Conference is, Kobe, Phill and rest of the team look to be on a mission to prove a point.

Re: NBA

every year in this NBA thread we have MJ vs. Kobe vs. Lebron discussion and how is better. its not interesting anymore. No one can replace MJ. Lets end it there.

Re: NBA

u said it brotha.. all these fools are mere wanna bes..jordan is the real deal often imitated never replicated

Re: NBA

Tim Duncan is out, but that is not going to stop the Spurs for winnng games.

Enter Manu GINOBILI!!!!

His 37 points against Mavericks and Jazz propelled the defending champions to two big wins against playoff contendors. What can you say about this guy? He comes off the bench and scores, plays in the starting line up and wins games. His contribution for Spurs are just piling up, not just in regular seasoon but also in playoff.

Another great game was Lakers vs Nuggets. Allen Iverson turned it on, scoring 51 points. Lakers and Kobe made a late rally and won the game. Bryant played the fourth quater really well scoring 12 points as Lakers won 111-107.

Phoenix Suns defeated the Toronto Raptors 136-123.

Barbosa 35pts, Nash 18ast.

Re: NBA

i wouldnt call them fools. and its usually the media like ESPN that do such comparisons of players with MJ. I remmember the comparisons started back in the day before Kobe and Lebron started playing, when they started comparing Grant Hill to MJ.

Re: NBA

Great game between the Lakers and Warriors. LA led most of time, but late rally by the Golden State helped them get the victory. Baron Davis with 5 fouls came at the end and hits the 3 pointer to win it. Big performance and the arena was jam-packed with 20,000 people.

108-106

Re: NBA

Thanks to Detroit, Celtics received their first loss of the season at home.

Great game between Mavs and Suns. Mavs won 108-105. Dirk 31pts, Nash 18ast.
