NBA Season 2003/4

Talk about whoopin on the Lakers. The Kings prooved they are better then the Kings again. Even when they are playing their worst basketball of the season. And all Shag daddy can do is cus? What a big baby girl.

Anyway i think the championship will come down to Wolves or Kings.

There is a huge controversy surrounding the play of Kobe vs. Sacramento. Apaprently, he has some chip on his shoulder and wanted to prove that Lakers cant win w/o him or something. Too much ego he has.
San Antonio and Minnesota are playing the best ball going into the playoffs and even tho I like Minnesota's chances, but I stil believe when it comes down to best of 7 in playoffs, Spurs have the upper hand over Minnesota. But that still doesnt mean, Lakers are out of contention :D

(Poll conducted by LA Times)

fellas - Better Believe Carmelo! he's going for a playoff game in his rookie season - and if he doesn't wins Rookie of the year award - then there's sure biased in NBA!

Carmelo vs. KG in the first round - as John Kerry says "Bring it on!"

I would like to see Minnesota and San Antonio in the Western finals. Minnesota will choke as usual. :-p Wanna bet?
Carmelo certainly deserves the rookie of the yr award but I think he will have to share it with James.

It would be interesting to hear Payton and Malone's comments if Lakers fail this year.

What? Don't get me started on Shaq foul. All the refs did is to take him out of the game. The Kings were clearly getting all of the calls. If the refs are going to start calling touch fouls, then Shaquille O'Neal should go to the free-throw line every time he touches the ball.

It was just ridiculous the way the game was called.

Then that ref has the nerve to call a technical on Shaq. Let's not even talk about how Vlade Divac delayed the game by standing on the middle of the court for half a minute and staring at the ref, when Brad Miller was coming in for him.

Yaar Fab, why are you listening to the media? Have you listened to the Kobe on 690 AM radio? He sound positive about things right now. He's sincere about what he was saying, especially about wanting to come back as a Laker.

..and the L.A.Times came up with the story of unidentified Laker saying how can we forget him(Kobe) after Sunday's performance? Well, now Kobe has asked who said those words and Times ain't responsing. Why's that? Times like to stir things up just like media sources. Oh Kobe is leaving, oh Shaq and Kobe don't get along.

Did you see Shaq's reaction after Kobe hit the final shot last night? I haven't seen him that happy since Kobe throw him the famous alley-oop against Portland in game 7 in the 2000 WCF.

Kobe is unbelieveable! Both shots were so great that I can't even describe it. Malone got his ankle sprained and George couldn't play long because of his calf. So, the LAKERS, who were short-handed when came to Portland for last season game, were more shortened on the floor.

That shot which sent the game to OT. Oh my!!!! How did Kobe make that shot? It was 360 3-pointer! Oh Man, that was freakin' unbelieveable! and the last buzzer-beat shot......Holy Cow, it was like Kobe sucked the air out of Rose Garden, it was that great! Only 2 seconds were on the shotclock. He took the ball from Gary, turned around...and there it goes......

Looks like BLAZERS have to keep the banner "If you wanna beat L.A., stay away from clubs, girls and drugs" for one more year. You chant "Beat L.A. Beat L.A." and you will get killer shot in return!

With LAKERS win and KINGS lost, L.A. won the Pacific Division title! Who'd thought that the season will come down to the wire like that?

With that, the regular season ends. Postseason deserve a separate thread. It will be up!

Yeh open another thread about NBA Playoffs :D

Kobe does have an ego, even coach Phil was quoted saying that in today's Times. He has problem playing in the triangle offense and he has made it publically known to everyone. I believe that he will opt out after the season. But we shall see, stranger things have happened in this game.

It would have been nice to win against Queens in Sacramento last Sunday afternoon. Who knows, Lakers may not play them again in the playoffs. Dallas Mavericks will eliminate them in the first round. If Lakers had won that game, we would have shut up the Sac fans for the length of the playoffs, now they will continue to gloat over this victory even after they get eliminated in first round :D

Last nights game vs. Portland was a classic, reminiscent of the game 7 of 2000 conference title game, where Kobe made those big shots and brought home the title. The clutch 3 pointer stunned the crowd who had been shouting "Beat LA" all night :D And then Kobe taunted the crowd, pointing a finger at them after time expired and leaped into Russel's lap.

First Round beings Saturday afternoon. Shaq vs. Yao. Thats what all the media is drooling over right bout now.

Kobe has a problem with triangle offense? I thought Gary was quoted saying that, however, Phil had meeting with both of them one-on-one...and there's a love.

Yeah, sure Kobe has an ego. So does Shaq...and Phil too(a BIG one) but all of them know how to set aside their difference come playoff time. The way things are in Kobe's life, no one can predict what will Kobe do next season. Just like his shots. Give the ball to creator and you will never what's gonna happen next moment! In crunch times, Kobe has always got the last shot even when Phil wasn't coach.

I don't think Kobe will leave LAKERS franchise because L.A is the only franchise who will offer him big deal. Jerry Buss has got his support for him. There is possibility that he might go and play for CLIPPERS, KNICKS or even SUNS but at the end of day, Kobe will go for a big deal. I read an article on Times that Had Kobe re-signed his contract for six years, he would have lost $30 million. In Summer, when he signs with the LAKERS, it will be a new contract; he will get a 7-year contract of $ 141 million deal. The future of Phil with franchise and Jeanie(I don't know when Phil's going to purpose her?) still hangs but things will definitely be change in Summer. If Phil leaves, Shaq will probably won't return. Nor do I expect Kobe...and NBA fans might witness '98 Chicago BULLS story all over again.

Call me supersitious but LAKERS never play good on Sunday afternoon games. I don't know why but it has been like that for two/three years. However, it was ridiculous game against KINGS. LAKERS played bad, no doubt about it, but the fouls on Shaq were just ridiculous.

Beat L.A.! Beat L.A.!

Hearing it last night from Portland fans reminded me how it all started...with bitter Boston fans chanting it while getting their clock cleaned in the 1982 ECF by Philadelphia.

Well, Philadelphia didn't "beat L.A." that year, and that chant has been cursed ever since.

In the '80's, hateful CELTIC fans chanted it early in games against the LAKERS. Hateful JAZZ fans chanted it early in games in the '90s. Still, the LAKERS usually prevailed.

Then, only in recent years, have you heard the chant only when a game is out of reach, or nearly so. Thus, the COWARD'S chant. It's easy to chant such a thing when it seems the game is yours.

Of course, the LAKERS have been able to shut opponents' fans up late in games. Last night..it was a classic. Leading by three with 8.9 seconds to go and Patterson(who got Kobe's shoes with autograph after the game) on the line to seal it up, the Portland crowd chanted as one - "beat L.A.!!! beat L.A.!!!" Yet, Patterson proceeded to clank both throws and the crowd became mysteriously silent, their cowardice in full bloom, fearing...the dagger.

Which came with an improbable Kobe 3.

Yet the chant made a comeback...with the BLAZERS up in 2OT with 2.2 seconds to go, and then again 1.0 seconds to go, still chanting as Kobe threw up the rainmaker, AND...

...SILENCE from the coward's throats. Yes, you could hear the proverbial pin drop.

But no more chanting...not this evening, not in the coward's den.
