To get rid of it, there are duas and surahs. But I heard of a different take on it…putting dried red chilies wrapped in something that can burn easily (like tissues), roll into a ball and wave in circles over your head saying some verses (I forgot what) and to let it burn over an open flame. If it does NOT stink or smoke up and you don’t start coughing, it means you were nazar-ified. But if it does get smoky and you cough, there is no nazar. My friend’s mom did it for her twice and there was very little smoke the second time and nothing the first time. This sounds sketchy to me. Has anyone heard of this?
Re: Nazar
I think this thread is more suitable in R&S Forum.
Re: Nazar
I don't know how to move posts..
and wow 370+ people saw this and no one has heard of it?!
I met an Arab woman over the weekend and she mentioned a similar thing her grandmother used to do, except they use coal and some burner. After that, they take the ashes, put it in water and throw it out.
Anyways, freaked me out a bit..

Re: Nazar
Peace justpeachay,
Please note that ‘Nazar’ or ‘evil eyes’ is proven fact as narrated in various hadith. The method which u posted is not new but many peoples doing it from ages. I think such method is followed from those who indulge in magic / read charm etc., So by copying (seeing how they do) them, it is still existed in our culture. Precisely speaking, many found its very effective (cure) and do believe in it. But I was unable to find any reference of it in the book ‘Holy Quran’ and/or in any ‘Hadith’.
One can read these verses as supplication (dua) as Almighty Allah said (ordered) in Chapter 26 verses 97 & 98: "**And say, “My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, **And I seek refuge in You, my Lord , lest they be present with me.” Moreover, HE says in Chapter 113 verse 5: “And from the evil of an envier when he envies.”
According to the hadith found in the Book ‘Prophets’ of Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 590.
Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: The Prophet
used to seek Refuge with Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain and say: "Your forefather (i.e. Abraham) used to seek Refuge with Allah for Ishmael and Isaac by reciting the following: 'O Allah! I seek Refuge with Your Perfect Words from every devil and from poisonous pests and from every evil, harmful, envious eye.’ "
In Sahih Muslim, The Book on Salutations and Greetings (Kitab As-Salam)', Hadith No. 5424.
'A’isha (the wife of Allah’s Apostle
) said: When Allah’s Messenger
fell ill. Gabriel used to recite these verses." In the name of Allah. He may cure you from all kinds of illness and safeguard vou from the evil of a jealous one when he feels jealous and from the evil influence of eye."
Also, another Hadith No. 5427 from the same book of Sahih Muslim.
Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah’s Messenger
as saying: The influence of an evil eye is a fact; if anything would precede the destiny it would be the influence of an evil eye, and when you are asked to take bath (as a cure) from the influence of an evil eye, you should take bath.
There is a suplication (dua) to seek refuge from the plot of evil (devil), [mentioned in Ahmad 3/419 - Book Husan Al Muslim] which is as under:
“I seek refuge by the complete, perfect words of Allaah, which no righteous one nor wicked one can exceed, from the evil of what He has created, and from the evil of what descends from the heavens, and from the evil of what ascends to them, and from the evil of what is sown in the earth and is created, and from the evil of what comes out from it, and from the evil of the fitan of the night and the day, and from the evil of everyone who comes knocking, except for the one who comes knocking with khayr, O Rahmaan!”
Another thing mentioned in many hadith that in such cases one may do ‘Ruqaiya’.. In this regard u may consult with a qulified scholar/aalim.
Rest Almighty Allah known best.
