nazar

I thought this to be a kind of cultural issue so posted here, but feel free to move it mods.

Basically i just wanted to know if you guys believe in buree nazar or not and if you do then how do you break it. Personally i do believe in it, cuz ive seen it happen many times to my younger brother who is really sweet and goodlooking. Many times, for instance his last birthday he was looking really good and laughing and playing and then suddenly for no reason by the end of the day he was really ill with fever and everything. Also my sister who has amazing long beautifull hair, noticed this woman staring at her, then later the woman came up to her and complimented her on her hair. By the next day sis noticed loads of hair started falling out. I know people are gonna think that its just the imagination or whatever but i just think maybe there is something in buree nazar. My mum uses the burning daagah (thread) threeka to get rid of the nazar. What other ways do you know of?

I am not a huge believer in 'nazar' but maybe it it does exist. My mother is a faithful believer in one and usually she would chase us with an egg around the house for 'nazar otaar-ing' cuz we always thought it was kinda silly. I know the turkish actually have necklaces which look like an eye to ward of 'buree nazar' so it is not just a desi belief. Back home, they used to burn red chillies - aaah! I don't know who came up with all these rituals :)

My mom rotates red chillies and leaves above our heads and then throws them out on the street, people walking over them is suppose to get rid of the ‘evil eye’ I think. :smack:

I think there is some truth to it. I didn’t until my brother got very sick this past winter.

Anyway, I don’t think everything is true, but there are cases of “nazar.”

Zakii- yep my mum does the whole chilli rotating business as well and another thing she does, is rotate sugar over our heads and then throws them in the middle of a road junction. Quite funny really.

Rukhsar- ive not heard of the egg one, what do she, sorry your mum do with it then? Hope she doesn't crack it over your head lol, sorry just messing.

Thanks all for the replies.
