LARKANA: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has pledged that after becoming the country’s prime minister he would mobilise all resources to arrest the killers of the late Benazir Bhutto.

Addressing a public meeting here on Saturday, he criticised the government and said what good could be expected from it when it had failed even to catch the murderers of the slain former prime minister and PPP chairperson. “Being her brother, it’s my duty to arrest her killers,” he said.

He said the people who once had nothing to do with Benazir or her party were now ministers and government advisers.

“I don’t see my opponents as my personal enemy and my dream is to see Pakistan flourishing and its people prospering,” he remarked. “All politicians with positive thinking and the people of Pakistan are my friends,” he said.

Pointing to thousands of people attending the meeting, he said: “I don’t want power, you (people) are my power.”

He asked the youth armed with skill, degree and experience “to get ready for the future from today, as if he comes to power” would extend soft loans to help assist them in opening new windows of opportunity to establish their business and earn honourable livelihood for their families.

Amidst slogans of “go Zardari, go”, the former prime minister announced continuing policy of distributing land among haris (peasants) and uprooting dacoit culture, kidnapping for ransom, as he did within three months during his first tenure.

He asked people to support him for what he called building a new Pakistan. He said it was a sign of encouragement for him, as
he felt Larkana, Lahore, Karachi and Pakistan were thinking on same wave length. “I’m seeing Larkana changing,” he said.

“We will change people’s lives if were voted to power. We are not those who will ditch you after seeking vote,” he said.

Quoting Benazir Bhutto’s last phone call to him when he was in Islamabad in connection with a public meeting on Dec 27, where some PML-N workers were killed in a bomb blast, he said, unfortunately he could not receive it. When called back, I was
told, she was addressing a public meeting in Liaquat Bagh and he dropped a message for calling him back after the public meeting was over.

“When I was informed about a bomb blast and injuries to her, cancelling all engagements, I rushed to the hospital where she later died,” he said.

PPP leaders wrapped in grief in the hospital, according to him, had asked him waiting for his (Nawaz’s) power and they only wanted to see her assailants to be exposed and arrested.

Taking about his rocky relations with the government, he questioned whether it’s same PPP which Benazir Bhutto had left in Sindh or something else.

He said that Sindhis were abandoned and neglected by the PPP government in both episodes of heavy floods and rains.

He said the government did not standby the marooned people and claimed that the Punjab chief minister had sent 680 trucks loaded with daily use items, worth Rs62 crores.

He said the government forgot displaced people after giving them the first instalment of Rs20,000 and still more than 600,000 people were waiting to get financial assistance of Rs10,000 to repair their houses.

He criticised the raised rates of fertilisers from Rs500 per bag of 40 kilogram to Rs3,000 which spoke the volume of price spiral.

“Railways and PIA have been turned into severely sick institutions,” he said.

Referring to the Charter of Democracy, he alleged the rulers had deviated from it. “Had it been implemented in its true spirit, there would have been development and prosperity in the country today,” he said.

“We only parted ways with the rulers after smelling their insincere attitude to implement the CoD,” he said.

PML-N’s Larkana president Babu Sarfaraz Jatoi, former Sindh governor Mamnoon Hussain, former chief minister Syed Ghous Ali Shah and Jawed Hashmi also spoke on the occasion.

Mian Nawaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders visited Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto and offered fateha on the grave of Benazir Bhutto.

Talking to reporters, he dispelled the impression that by holding public meeting in Larkana he had used ‘Sindh Card’ saying that he had only one card with him which was ‘Pakistani Card’.He also visited the house of Company Commander, Major
Mujahid Hussain Mirani, in Naudero, who was martyred in Nato air strikes in Mohmand Agency and offered condolence with the family members.
