^ This is the famous Ishaq Dar Formula to end the circular debt issue on permanent basis. Charge those double the amount of their bills who are paying their bills regularly and make up for line losses and power theft.

Its almost triple. Thats another thing that questions are being raised on the payment of circular debt as well.

Sheikh Rashid was the first to raise questions on these payments and asked for audits. I think it is a good step to have IPPs accounts audited.

Auditing should have been done before making the payments. The 'experienced' PMLN team is scaring me with their way of working.

this was very much likely, and to be honest there is no other way to stop circular debt from coming back unless the production of energy becomes cheaper, which will take at least 5-6 years if not more. maximum recovery of billed electricity, avoiding theft, and charging customer close to production cost is needed. they are excluding poor consumers (below 300 units) from this increase
and by the way, increasing electricity rate by ending subsidy is what Asad Umer was also suggesting a couple of weeks ago on TV.

People are impatient. The government saw what happened to Morsi and things could get worse if they did not take some stupid stop-gap measures that would hurt Pakistan in long run but might result in some short-term relief.

I wonder what has happened to 350 billion rupees which the government has paid to IPPs.
