Someone once told me that in a wedding party, a general (I do not remember his name) saw a young Nawaz and decided that he (Nawaz) should get promoted to become Prime Minister of Pakistan. He called Nawaz and asked him if he (Nawaz) wanted to become future Prime Minister of Pakistan. Nawaz with an idiotic grin and disbelief on his face told the general that he never thought of that as he has no political background neither he think that it is possible (to his wildest dream). General laughed, took off his hat and put it on the head of Nawaz and told him that not to worry, as the hat he is wearing has lot of magical power. Later, the general introduced Nawaz to Zia-ul-Haq and ... and ... and ... the rest is story on the wall. **

aren't you the guy who said that his friends were civil servants in Pakistan who don't let go any chance of looting the country? isn't a bit rich of you to whine about alleged corruption by NS/Zardari, etc when you associate with crooks yourself in your personal life?

Was Zia that gullible that a general comes and says 'Sir, I have found a perfect son for you', and he goes ahead and adopts him?
Why did Zia have to adopt a son in Lahore and another in Karachi?
Why did the brainless son become prime minister and the intelligent one turned violent and is now absconding in UK?

Yea, I know people who are in politics (PPP as well as other parties) and also people who are in Pakistan government services (at reasonably high posts) and many of them (rather most of them), even those who from outside portray that they are religious, are involved in corruption.
Further, I believe that anyone who says that they do not know such people then most likely they never lived in Pakistan, and/or are from families who do not know anyone in Pakistani traditional political parties (PPP, PML, etc) and have no connection with people in Pakistan government service. Anyhow, if that is not the case (for instance, they lived in Pakistan, know people in traditional political parties and/or have contacts with people in government services) and still someone says that they do not know people in Pakistan who are corrupts, then such person is corrupt himself and is feeling ashamed of admitting, or is big fat blatant Liar.

Well, no magic wand in obvious way. Only thing happened is Thug Nawaz got introduced with Zia, got inducted into politics and then later got appointed as wazeer-e-Khazana of Punjab. Later Zia used him to topple Junejo and Junejo leadership of PML. Rest of story all know and if you do not know, I have no time to tell you. You can do your own research. :)
As for general and middle class family wedding then what you think generals are? They are themselves from Middle class working Population. I believe I am from middle class, and still know many past and present Generals (from one start to 4 stars) even within my family, and attended weddings where generals were present. It is no big deal. And yea, do not try to BS that all generals are very rich, as I know many whom I would not call rich in any way.
[Another fact is that, the system that exists in Pakistan, it is no big deal for a middle class person to have contact or attend wedding parties of rich and powerful].

Well, that is a very difficult question to answer as different people would have different opinion regarding this. Anyhow, I do not consider anyone who has assets less than couple of million dollars plus regular monthly secured income of couple of hundred thousand rupees is really rich Pakistani.

^^^ You are right, there could be no two opinions regarding what you wrote above. Being rich is relative.
When I wrote above that Shareef family was middle class business family before Zia pulled Nawaz into politics, what I meant was that they were middle class business family relative to other business families (or, in other words, there were thousands of business families much richer then Shareef families at that time).

I can understand that one can become chief of Pakistan Army being brainless (in fact it would be a prerequisite for promotion beyond brigadier), but it must be really difficult being 'totally brainless' and making it to the richest of Pakistan from such a humble background.

Zia had it in him to find rare talent, he found a taxi driver and made him head of MQM
Isn’t it sad that Zia selected a thief for Lahore and service provider for Karachi?
For instance, when Zia learned that Nawaz from childhood was making roads of Lahore unsafe by stealing road gutter covers from Lahore roads for his dad ‘Abba Shareef’ who used to use that cover as raw material melting that cover in his iron foundry, Zia liked petty thief Nawaz and gave him Punjab to loot.
In same way when Zia learned that Altaf is providing service to people of New York driving taxi and as pharmacist can also make medicine to give relief to people, he decided that Karachi needs such person who could give service and relief to Karachi, so Zia gave Karachi to Altaf.
It is really sad but funny about Zia. Can’t understand why Zia loved Karachi so much and hated Punjab. :)

Bhai believe me, and if you do not, ask people from Lahore who was living there in early 60s. What I know, they (shareef's when running Atafaq Foundry ... the flag ship of Shareef business) stole anything of metal they could get their hands on, from rail tracks to gutter covers. That is how they use to run their foundry ... getting their raw material cheap. Nawaz and Shahbaz learned the trade young, how to steal and prosper. :)
