this is a very positive thing, when the representatives/leaders of a major political party visit the displaced persons and share in their grief and hardtime. we, the nation, need to support our brothers/sisters who have been displaced by current events in PATA/FATA region and show them that the nation stands with them and shares in their loss.

i hope the same would be done by representatives or head of other political parties in a show of solidarity with the common folks.

i also hope that all major political parties would initiate (if it hasn’t been done already) a fundraiser to support the displaced and provide for them with an open heart. we need to follow the model of charity shown during the grand earthquake which rocked Pakistan in 2005.

I hope they don't try to use the situation for their political gains, instead of rubbing salt in the wounds they start helping them out.

Its time Qauid-e-tahreek Laard Altaf visit the displcaed people too. Afterall, he was the one who wanted to bomb them out of the skies.

Re: Nawaz Sharif, Hoti visit displaced persons in Mardan

Is Altaf hussain giving orders to the army on tactics? Is he the DGMO or operational commander in Swat? Is he telling the artillery to fire indiscriminately in urban areas? Or maybe it's musharraf who is issuing these orders from Europe (or wherever he is right now)?

^ Mods hes violating the sacred zero taaalerance policy...

Punjab ready to share IDPs burden: Nawaz

Tuesday, May 12, 2009
Our correspondents

MARDAN/NOWSHERA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Supreme Leader Mian Nawaz Sharif has offered to share the burden of internally displaced persons (IDPs) with the Frontier government and said that those responsible for the situation deserved no mercy.

He stated this while talking to local correspondents during his visit to Sheikh Yaseen and Sheikh Shehzad camps on Monday. Nawaz said that ensuring relief for the IDPs was the responsibility the entire nation and every citizen had to play his role to facilitate the displaced persons.

NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti, ANP central leader Azam Khan Hoti, PML-N General Secretary Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, PML-N Provincial President Pir Sabir Shah, Mardan Commissioner Khalid Khan Umarzai, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mardan Range Syed Akhtar Ali Shah and District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar were also among those present on the occasion.

Nawaz said the IDPs were brothers of Punjabi people and Punjab would provide all possible facilities and assistance to them. He said all provincial governments should show generosity to the IDPs and share burden of the Frontier.

The PLM-N chief had a round of the IDPs tents to get himself informed about the problems being faced by these people in distress. Earlier, the PML(N) chief arrived at the PAF airbase, Nowshera, wherefrom he drove straight to Mardan. He was received at the airbase by party leaders, including Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Pir Sabir Shah.
Punjab ready to share IDPs burden: Nawaz

awesome. that’s the kind of effort that is needed to ensure the displaced that they are not forgotten.

while one political party takes the opportunity to threaten to leave the govt, rest of the nation is focusing on more urgent issues like caring for the IDPs.

Re: Nawaz Sharif, Hoti visit displaced persons in Mardan

Well I applaud punjab's leader in saying that. Hopefully some practical steps are taken. I still don't know why transport is not being provided to them by govnt. They can ask the truckers, who are 90% pashtun to help out. Rs 1 million has been donated by MQM so far.

LOL, Rs 1 million!!

Thats what the blackhole will ea in one setting.

Thats good to hear, it will be even better if actions are followed by words.
