Nawaz seeks Sami ul Haq's help for peace talks

I am really confused what Nawaz Sharif wants to do.

Yesterday he wanted early promulgation of anti terror laws and today he is asking Sami ul Haq’s help in restoring peace talks.

Nawaz met the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Samiul Haq group (JUI-S) chief today for a one-on-one meeting at the Prime Minister House.

Talks with the Taliban was the main issue on the agenda and Haq assured the prime minister that he will use his influence to ensure the peace process progresses in the right direction.

Nawaz has been personally meeting various political and religious leaders in order to kick startthe negotiation process with the militants.

**The prime minister took JUI-S chief into confidence over the recent military action in the Waziristan region and invited him to get personally involved in the Taliban peace talks process.
**
Hoping for a good beginning to the new year, Haq said change in government policies can bring the Taliban to negotiation.

While speaking to Geo News, he also said he would help try to resolve the issue and that the core issue would be putting an end to drone strikes.

Background
It should be noted that JUI-S had earlier not been invited in the APC. His party featured nowhere in the government’s plans of initiating dialogue with the Pakistani Taliban.

Earlier, the PML-N government had invited Sami for facilitating the government’s intended peace negotiations but after receiving JUI-F chief‘s reservations, the government removed Samiul Haq’s party from its preferred list of facilitators for talks with the militant outfit.

Samiul Haq is nicknamed the ‘Father of the Taliban’ and runs a madrassa where several Taliban leaders were educated.

Re: Nawaz seeks Sami ul Haq's help for peace talks

it will never work ... because NS can think and try to do whatever... the AMRY only does things on its own.. it never recognizes or respects the Prime minister.. so this will be a disaster.

Re: Nawaz seeks Sami ul Haq's help for peace talks

Nawaz shrif and his key people are scared, confused and double minded.

among mainstream non--religious political fraternity, no one has more interaction with taliban than PMLN....PMLN knows them well and that is why the PMLN leadership expresses zero hopes for the negotiation process with taliban in private settings but when they come to the public, they start talking pro-taliban, pro-negotiation language to gain public popularity and neutralize IK..hence complete confusion!

Re: Nawaz seeks Sami ul Haq's help for peace talks

I don't believe the government and the involved politicians are confused, if anything I think the timeline and charter of concluding the war with Taliban has met with utmost secrecy. The government, intelligence and army as usual has once again decided to go behind the curtains to act out their policies. Something is definitely going on, it's just the rulers and establishment feels the ordinary citizens don't deserve to know anything.
