Nasarullah’s sons, 170 others join PML
Nawabzada Iftikhar Ahmad Khan, Nawabzada Ibrar Ahmad Khan and Nawabzada Israr Ahmad Khan, the sons of the late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, called on Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Friday and announced their decision to join the PML along with 170 nazims and councillors of Muzaffargarh. The CM said their support would strengthen the PML. He said the incumbent government had allocated unprecedented resources for the uplift of southern Punjab. “11 percent more funds have been provided to the region than its population,” he said, adding that around Rs 64 billion had been spent on the development of southern Punjab in the last four years. He said joining of PML by the late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan’s sons would help accelerate the pace of development projects in Muzaffargarh. Nawabzada Iftikhar Ahmad Khan said, “We have joined the PML after being impressed by the incumbent government’s policies.” He said that they would make all-out efforts to strengthen the party. staff report
If they truly did that because they were impressed by the PML rightly so, then its all good, but NN was a great democrat and a man of principles and hope they dont ruin his legacy.
The elections at most are about 10 months away, and all the big political stalwarts are coalescing around one big party or another in the hope of winning seats. There is no such thing as scruples when it comes to Pakistani politicians just a desperate desire to grab a "titled" position be it Nazim, MNA, MPA, Senator, Minister etc.
Hence, you have former General Zia, Nawaz Sharif and General Musharraf supporters like Abida Hussain and Fakhar Imam recently join the PPP-P. As did former Prime Minister Balakh Sher Mazari. Then you had the recent return of the Mian Azhar to the PML after years of relative silence/brooding since the 2002 elections. Also, almost all of the late Nawab Akbar Bugti's elected MPA's have joined the PML-led government in Balochistan. No doubt existing members of each party will be slightly nervous that they will lose out to the late entrees, but that's Pakistan politics for you. :)
