Re: Naveed Akram Cheema The New Manager
Only in Pakistan does somebody simultaneously hold two or three managerial positions. As always PCB chooses an ideal candidate for a cricket post. MD of Water and Power makes him such a strong candidate!!
Re: Naveed Akram Cheema The New Manager
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Naveed Akram Cheema as new manager of the Pakistan team for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe as Intikhab Alam has quit the post.
Naveed, a member of the PCB governing board, will replace former Test captain Intikhab Alam, who remained the national team’s manager for one year after Yawar Saeed left the key post in the backdrop of the spot-fixing scandal which erupted during the England tour last year.
Intikhab has cited family reasons for leaving the post. However, he is still attached to the PCB as he holds the office of National Cricket Academy’s director besides being a member of the governing board.
“Naveed will be the manager only for the tour of Zimbabwe,” PCB chairman Ijaz Butt said while talking to media on Tuesday.
**When asked the ICC’s Task Team in its recommendations had suggested the board to appoint a long-term manager, he maintained that it was at the discretion of the PCB whether to appoint a manager on series-to-series basis or on long-term basis.
**Meanwhile, Naveed, who was manager during Pakistan ‘A’ team’s tour of the West Indies, stated that it was a big responsibility and he would try his level best to maintain discipline during the tour.
The new manager said though the job was tough, achieving success was not impossible.
“Players do have problems at such age, but if they are aware that prompt action will be taken against them if they are found guilty of indiscipline, they will avoid any wrongdoing,” he noted.
