Project Director: Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance

Job Description: Project Director to manage a collaborative visioning process for stakeholders in New England’s groundfish industry.
The Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance is a non-profit, grassroots organization with a diverse membership, staff, and board of trustees (including nationally recognized leaders in commercial and recreational fishing, marine science, conservation, marine education, and community organizers from Rhode Island to Canada). NAMA encourages a collaborative approach to problem solving, one that engages all stakeholders in finding lasting solutions to difficult problems. Built on the principles of accountability, cooperation, fairness, and equality, NAMA’s mission is to restore and enhance an enduring northwest Atlantic marine system that supports an abundance of marine life and human uses.
The Project Director’s role will be to convene and facilitate meetings of fishermen, government officials, environmentalists and other interested parties in order to develop a shared and comprehensive vision for the future of the New England groundfish fleet. This will include:
· Planning and organizing all logistical aspects of meetings
· Overseeing recruitment and participation of large number of diverse stakeholders
· Facilitating the operations of the meetings using existing skills and those gained through intensive training in collaborative visioning and conflict resolution provided by our project partners.
The Project Director will manage all other aspects of the Fleet Visioning Project including:
· Organizing and managing a steering committee of stakeholders who will advise on the process.
· Working collaboratively with NAMA’s communications director on implementing a targeted public relations campaign
· Assisting with fundraising
· Engaging stakeholders to ensure results are translated into policy goals and future marine resource management decision-making.
The Project Director will work in close collaboration with NAMA’s coordinating director and staff.
Applicants should have significant experience in organizing and facilitating multi-stakeholder meetings; capability and desire to work closely with fishermen, government officials, environmentalists and other community representatives. Experience in fundraising, public relations, policy development and natural resource management is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, dedicated and highly organized.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of field experience organizing and facilitating multi-stakeholder meetings
Outstanding interpersonal and negotiation skills
Experience with natural resource management issues
Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
Ability and willingness to travel throughout the New England region
Employment will be via a two year contract with Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance, Inc. and based in Saco, Maine. Position is contingent on receipt of funding.
