Nations with top Rape Crimes

honour killings and karo kari are non existent in almost all the countries who made it to the list...these are no lessr crimes than a rape.

so if u include them pakistan will make it to the list...

Re: Nations with top Rape Crimes

In the U.S. you don't need 4 witnesses for rape to occur. Nor are rape victims viewed as the one who should feel shame after being raped nor are their families shamed.

When looking at a list like this and comparing countries you need to keep in mind how a rape victim is treated by the society and the system of each country. That is going to figure into the number of women who come in to report that they were in fact rape. Women who are raped in the U.S. are much more likely to report it than those raped in Pakistan for those very reasons.

Re: Nations with top Rape Crimes

Rape is high everywhere in the world and the way to curb it is to make the punishment for it severe so the rapists fear it. The pitfall of Pakistan and the West who do not report it is because the culture in Pak is far from Islamic and so is the West.

The people around in a village aught to report rape and stand as witnesses but they too do nothing. There is no compassion in people anymore not even in the family members who hush up their female victimised relatives at the same time we have open avenues within Pakistan that promote illicit sex and some of the elite are submerged in it.

Re: Nations with top Rape Crimes

^That's the idea. We had sort of a similar poll some time ago on whether Capital Punishment should be abolished altogether and most participants voted 'NO' because they believe that 1. Laws differ based on society 2. Severe punishments will keep people from committing crimes of higher degree.

So what it boils down to is 'If you can't do the time, don't do the crime'. Severe Punishment usually equals decreased crime rate.

What about Dowry victims in India? what about "Sati" (don't tell me it doesn't happen anymore)? Lets just stick to the crime under discussion.

take it easy...... i have not even discussed practices like SWARA and VANI in the land of pure.

not a single case of sati reported in this year... proove me wrong if u can...

Take it easy, I am not interesting in bashing India just for the sake/fun. try sticking to a topic at hand for a change.

In that case they have no arguement :)

Peace Psyah

Do you mean to say that there would be witnesses for every rape. You mention that the problem is because culture in Pak is far from Islamic.

What if there are no witnesses. How would the muslim scholars decide in such a case. It is just not the elite which is submerged in promoting illicit sex...

It seems Pakistan leads the world in this area :frowning:

At least 100 rapes in Karachi a day

KARACHI: On average, 100 women are raped every 24 hours in Karachi city alone, and a majority of them are working women, said Additional Police Surgeon (APS) Dr Zulfiqar Siyal.

A majority of them are working class women or those working as domestic help and are mostly up to 20 years old, he said.

“I am saying with full authority that such a large number of rape cases happen in the city,” he told Daily Times on the sidelines of a discussion on sexual violence organised by the Aurat Foundation on Monday. “But very few rape survivors have the courage to come forward in search of justice.”

They do not come forward because of the lengthy medical process and delayed justice system in Pakistan. Only 0.5 percent of cases are reported and the majority (99.5 percent) of survivors prefers to stay silent.

Part of the problem is that there are 11 medico-legal sections in three major public sector hospitals but there are only six women medico-legal officers (WMLOs) for the 18 million population of Karachi.

“I am sure that there are more than 100 rape cases every day … but you can gauge how many are reported from the official data which says that during the last eight months (between January to August 2008) a total of 197 cases were reported,” Dr Siyal said.

The WMLOs also face a lot of problems, he said.

Karachi is also short on hospitals where rape survivors can go through the entire medical examination. “It isn’t just medical facilities but you won’t find a single women police officer (WPO) in any of the total 101 police stations of the city,” he said.

Provincial minister Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto said though previous governments had passed legislation they were not implemented.

Re: Nations with top Rape Crimes

No point in arguing that particular country rape rates are low or high. Even single rape is crime and we should be ashamed of it. countries or religion does not matter. There is no reason to glorifying 'we have reported only 10 rapes per day, instead of 2 every hours compare to US' (hypothetical example)

conservative countries like India and Pakistan have to go long way to improve social structure to protect women.

Rape is crime against woman and so other crimes should also be part of statistics Although some senior members think otherwise.

(ps can people stop fighting like kids about religion and country? India has 20% muslim population which is 200million + and no way minority so both community should live and let other live)

When will Pakistanis stop cursing themselves. Pakistan is much better in these aspects from most of other nations.

^ You are kidding, right?

On India’s “rape pandemic”: A national disgrace - global-sisterhood-network.org

Rape statistics
Only one in about 70 cases of rape gets reported. This means that about 69 women get raped before one lodges an official complaint. Of the reported cases (only one out of 70), only 20 per cent are convicted. Consequently, only three out of 1,000 rapists ever get convicted. So most rapists can get away with rape.

Re: Nations with top Rape Crimes

Islaamic law does not consider forensics which can provide scientific proof of rape - even in the absence of 4 witnesses. (Who the heck rapes a woman in the presence of others???) Rape in USA seems high yet women here are free to seek justice against their attackers whereas they are unable to do so in most Islaamic countries. There, the victims are put to blame most of the time so its better for them to say nothing.
