In today’s world there need to be clear and defining parameters between patriotism and nationalism, as once said by Orwell, “nationalism is the habit of identifying oneself with a single nation or an idea, and; placing it beyond good and evil and recognizing no other duty than that of advancing its interests.”

My comments.
This little abstract Editorial of mine tries to portray a grim picture of innocent people getting exploited all around the world today, it does not matter whether they are freedom deprived and persecuted Palestinians or Kashmiris burdened with cruel and unjust impositions and restraints, innocent and indigent yet law abiding Pakistanis who have been slaughtered by Drone attacks and suicide bombings left and right with all the might and main. Following is a little tribute that I wrote for all of my fellow innocent Pakistanis who died by Drone attacks and Suicide bombings.
My tribute to innocent Pakistanis slaughtered By Drones attacks and suicide bombings.
Pakistan is eternally tranquil in the sense of its natural pulchritude; it is loaded with gratifying natural beauteousness, its people although impecunious yet munificent at heart… God bless Pakistan and people indigenous to Pakistan, where ever they might be…
Sincerely,
Nawaz Ansari
Re: Nationalism vs Patriotism
Well Islam does not favour nationalism hence I dont really confirm to it either...
So far as patriotism is concerned one can be Muslim and patriotic but also must take care not to be so patriotic that you forget your faiths teachings.
Re: Nationalism vs Patriotism
Well, my thread has nothing to do with Islam or any other religion far that matter, it is just my opinion regarding today's kabuki democracies, their obsession with might and control of the world resources and their cockiness and deceit to achieve their political agenda.
I can clearly see that you posted your comment without reading my Editorial.
Re: Nationalism vs Patriotism
Agreed but belief is important when talking about politics... I cant help mine.
Sometimes ones faith is more than a faith it's a way of life.
Re: Nationalism vs Patriotism
Sure, religious beliefs are very imperative, yet they are beyond the scope of this thread.
Re: Nationalism vs Patriotism
Okaaay
So what your saying is it's okay to be Patriotic but you should not be Nationalistic in particular to dominating over others?... I can relate to what you say and agree with you there.
Re: Nationalism vs Patriotism
Bingo you got it, patriotism is okay because it does not hurt any one yet nationalism places one's enthusiasm and love for their country beyond good and evil, recognizing no other duty than that of advancing its interests.
Re: Nationalism vs Patriotism
Thing is both Pakistan and India are overdoing it with the nationalistic Jingo.
China too seems to have given up it's heritage and taken the US style attitude lately by pushing forward Nationalistic policy... this is dangerous to humanity.
Re: Nationalism vs Patriotism
Well China is only out there to compete with imperialism I guess it is a question of survival for them, looking at the UK and US history I don't blame Chinese for feeling this way at all , other then that Chinese strategy has always been on defensive side.
Re: Nationalism vs Patriotism
Your right historically China has been the ultimate practictioner of defensive politics. However lately they have ditched the teachings of Sun Tzu for the Kluaswitch style of imperialism. Confucianists would be angry at this stance...
I hope China continues with its age honoured defensive style. Europeans have much to learn from us... but I feel the old imperialst serpent crawling under thier houses again.
