Nationalism and patriotism

Am I right in assuming that too much of it is not healthy, nor is it very Islamic?

I just thought of it from the “Woman of substance” thread in Pak1. When people, powerful govt officials and lil shiitheads on GS, accuse someone of trying to get justice and mental/emoitonal/physical comfort (physical comfort being, i dunno, not having to wrry that someone will kill or rape them) of giving Pakistan a bad name then is there something wrong there? When something so bad happens to you, does the image of your country, the country that allowed this to happen to you, really matter? Im not a diehard patriot either way. So exactly what is the Islamic stance on such extreme patriotism?

Re: Nationalism and patriotism

Nationalism brought down the Muslims in Spain.

Firstly, their nationalism caused them to separate from the Khilafat in Damascus and set up a separate Khilafat capitaled in Spain. Thus, as rebels, they never recieved military assistance from the rest of the Muslim world.

Secondly, even within Spain nationalism got the better of them and the Muslims of spain fragmented into around 30 individual nations, which were swallowed up one at a time and annexed by the Christians of northern spain.

Re: Nationalism and patriotism

The only healthy nationalism was that based on the Islamic state becuase it was based on an actual creed rather than something silly like land or ethnicity....

Nationalism is what helped divide us...just look at what happened with the Arabs and the Turks and more recently India...

Its never a good thing...

Re: Nationalism and patriotism

Sara, there is no room for nationalism in Islam. EOT.

CC: Did you get the 1971 memo?

Re: Nationalism and patriotism

The Kuffar actually realize more of this non-nationalism in Muslims...They never say Paki terrorist or Arab terrorist or Palestinian terrorist...The say Islamic terrorist...

Being non-Muslims, they realize it more than us...

Re: Nationalism and patriotism

Good so I'm not wrong.

So can someone explain to me HOW it is possibly good or beneficial to trash all teh work that NGOs and women like mukhtaran mai hav done to get justice because they're "giving pakistan a bad name"? Idiots.

Re: Nationalism and patriotism

can iran and pakistan join as one nation just becasue of religen ? so nations exist now on the basis of pre-islamic period.

Re: Nationalism and patriotism

NGO’s don’t trust them because they have hidden agenda a lot of the times, as for mukhtaran mai, she is fighting for her rights and nothing bad about what she is doing only some people in government don’t like when people fight for their rights you know that, they want everybody to shutup and accept everything as it is.

Re: Nationalism and patriotism

Islam is the only basis that muslims countries can unite anything else would be complete failure because the basis would be so weak and full of contradictions.
