The committee decided on Wednesday to summon Pakistan’s military and spy chiefs to explain their stance on the Memogate, in an apparent bid to dispel the impression that the all-party body was too weak to probe such a high-profile criminal case.
Chaired by Senator Raza Rabbani, the panel also decided to call Husain Haqqani, Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US, who is at the heart of the bitter controversy which has engulfed national politics over the past two months.
A couple of the meeting’s participants told The Express Tribune that the panel was unanimous in its view that any individual and institution, irrespective of their power or position, could be summoned.
It was not immediately decided when Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Ahmed Shuja Pasha should appear before the committee.
The all-party and bicameral panel was assigned by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to investigate the memo allegedly sent to then-top US military commander by Haqqani to seek help against a possible military coup in Pakistan in May.

I dont think so, the people will not support the army in anything like that now. The have lost most of their respect, thats maybe one of the reason why People's party has come against them heads on now.

^ That is true, but with the help of NS or IK, army can comeback... many analyst in Pakistan have already predicted about some technocratic setup...and we know who runs the technocratic setup in Pakistan

yes but the army has also lost a lot of support too, so it wouldnt be feasible for them to take over!
No wonder, Army + Opposition are now trying to use Judiciary's shoulder instead of direct action.
I was listening to one talk show yesterday and lame excuse given by PML(N) about going into court about memo scandle was that
"O jee yee kam tu parliment ka hee hai. Hum court kabhi bhi nahi jatey ager Parliament is per action laitee. Liken parliament main tu PPP ki majority hai yee kuch kerney hee nahi daitey"
HELLO??? isnt that democracy, whoever has numbers get it their way?
I'd say let PPP rule for 5 years, next elections main loog khud hee bahaar ker deen gai. Personally I think PPP govt is somehow trying to survive till Senate elections. Once the elections are over, PPP will openly fight against Army and Judiciary and will try to be shaheed.
