Where does Waqar Younis fit in? I thought he would be the bowling coach at NCA.

Re: National Cricket Academy Appointments

Well his main job is to coach the nationl side plus his other duties include working with Pakistan A, U-19 and Academy teams. So basically he is not a full time coach for NCA.

Re: National Cricket Academy Appointments

Good question. I am as surprised as you are. Although it seems like since Waqar is only appointed until the World Cup (and on a temporary basis, as was reported upon his contract signing), he will be 'assisting' the full-time bowling coach, if anything. Also, as Khan Sahab has pointed out, he will also be traveling with the National Team on foreign tours, which should be the topmost priority, and he will be unable to look after the U-19 circuit as well as the proceedings at NCA during his absence, hence the reason why the full-time bowling was announced as such.

This could possibly be the only rational explanation, apart from the ridiculous recent addition of another bowling coach for the National side in addition to Younis, which, simply, can be summarized in this simple phrase - Apnay paon pay kulhari maarna.

Re: National Cricket Academy Appointments

Is it reasonable to assume the fact that Waqar Younis's contract may not be extended after the World cup and even if it is - he may not want to continue?

Since a bowling coach has been appointed at NCA and the fact that the PCB seems to be making a habit of hiring coaches for short term basis - his services may not be needed?

Re: National Cricket Academy Appointments

Given the above rational explanations, it seems a logical decision to make. Waqar will not be around, down the road, to monitor every ball-by-ball update at the NCA, and is only here on a temporary basis, hence the decision as such.

Atleast, on the good side, he is appointed until the World Cup, which is what matters at this point in time, really. His position will be re-evaluated after we will win the World Cup.

Re: National Cricket Academy Appointments

I think not only Waqars position will be re-elavated but it may also re-evalate the position of others associated with the team i.e. Bob Woolmer, dopey Inzi. They may be given further extension to their roles. Time will tell.

I got this from yesterday's Dawn so hopefully the rest should be out today :)

Btw i didn't find too many familiar names in there (there is hardly anyone from U19 teams), hopefully they are all extremely talented youngsters and NOT Sifarshis.

Re: National Cricket Academy Appointments

The only familiar name I could look at right away is Samiullah Niazi :)
