National Archives of Pakistan

The NAP apparently contains a vast collection of documents/manifestoes etc related to Quaid-e-Azam in particular, and regarding historical events leading upto Pakistan’s creation, in general. Has anyone accessed these archives? Is it free? i think it’s located in Islamabad. Are there any plans, does anyone know, for the archives to be established online… i think it would be lovely to access some of those old documents especially old letters between Jinnah and his contemporaries. What a minewealth of historical information… would be an interesting project if they called for volunteers or something to put the non-confidential info online so that access to it can be broadened.

Yeah i’m a geek.

I wonder what the encyclopedia britanica says about the Quaid?

oh boy, Nadia, your interests are so much like mine yaar!! glad to know you!
well, about thr archives in pak..not really sure bout how it works here. i mean, we do have some sort of a freedom of info act but you know the kind of rulers we’ve had one may never know what the rules regulations may be and what may have been placed or what might have disapeared. i talked to my dad about it once and he said, it’s all in pretty shanty typical govt office condition, so it doesnt seem likely that theyd have any plans of making websites yet. i have wanted to visit the place and research on diff topics but never got down to it so far.
i did however once managed to find a website of the British archives in london and Kew.

about quaideazams stuff, theres this library in karachi under the Jinnah Foundation. it has a lot of rare stuff like proceedings of legal cases he handled, his correspondence with numerous imp ppl and so on. aslo there are two books with some info on his works; ‘Jinnah papers’ publisher OUP, and one the tilte of which i cant recall; it had all his nonpersonal letters and was compiled by Sharifuddin Pirzada.
