National Anthem
The national anthem is unique in that its music preceded its lyrics. The music composed by Chagla reflects his background in both eastern and western music. Twenty-one musical instruments and thirty-eight different tones are used to play the Qaumi Tarana. The lyrics are written in a “Persianized” form of Urdu.
How to properly show respect during the Quami Tarana:
-
Remove your hat if you are wearing one
-
Stand at attention and face the flag or the general direction of the public
-
Place the palm of your right hand across your chest, covering your heart
-
Sing along with the words to the national anthem, or remain silent. Do not eat, drink, talk or use your phone during this time
Our national anthem is played to remind us of the many men and women that have made the ultimate sacrifices protecting our nation.
