Salam All,

Got a quick question, been listening to a bit of Sami Yusuf and other video’s that are religious in content but are created with music ( duff and flute ) in the background. For example Kalma recited in a tune with some music in the background. What are your thoughts? is it ok to listen to them or do you think its disrespecting the holy words of Allah when they are recited in a tune with added music ( duff or flute ) ?

There is two opinions on this from what i can gather. One is it is not allowed, the other is that it is allowed. If that is true then the general rule would be not to forbid it, until something arises which was not part of the permissions given by The Imams in favour of it.

I was listening ‘Kalima Sharif’ of Milad Raza Qadri and became uncomfortable regarding it, but I let my son listen to it without concern. Then I have have no problems listening to Sami Yusuf’s Al-Mualim which also contains music

I mentioned it to my Mother-in-law and she said that it is to compete with what you (your generation) are listening to, as in pop music. On that basis it seems ok
