Got a quick question, been listening to a bit of Sami Yusuf and other video’s that are religious in content but are created with music ( duff and flute ) in the background. For example Kalma recited in a tune with some music in the background. What are your thoughts? is it ok to listen to them or do you think its disrespecting the holy words of Allah when they are recited in a tune with added music ( duff or flute ) ?
^ It is actually not allowed, as mentioned in hadiths. If you search, you would find many hadiths & also discussions on forums on this matter. You would also find people trying to prove that it is allowed. The final decision is to be taken by your heart, whichever logic/ reference is more appealing to it. The scholars I know personally, they consider it haram.

There is two opinions on this from what i can gather. One is it is not allowed, the other is that it is allowed. If that is true then the general rule would be not to forbid it, until something arises which was not part of the permissions given by The Imams in favour of it.
I was listening 'Kalima Sharif' of Milad Raza Qadri and became uncomfortable regarding it, but I let my son listen to it without concern. Then I have have no problems listening to Sami Yusuf's Al-Mualim which also contains music
I mentioned it to my Mother-in-law and she said that it is to compete with what you (your generation) are listening to, as in pop music. On that basis it seems ok
Simple and very easy: Duff is used on marriage whereas no verses, kalima or dhikar used. "Kalima" is used for remembrance, repentance, enlightenment of Faith etc., from Almighty Allah whereas no duff or any other musical instrument is required.
these days, innovation is at it's peak. people are restless until they find something 'NEW' to add in the religion.
what's the need for musical accompaniment? duff is allowed in Islam but not as a background when you are reciting Qur'aan or Kalima. this is NOT allowed.
as far as Islam is concerned the use of musical instruments with strings is NOT permitted while the vocalist must not use 7-sur [of sur taal] in reciting Qur'aan and /or religious poetry.
i have another issue with the content of the na'ts, nasheeds and other religious hymns. if you look at na'ts by ustaad poets and by recent poets, you will notice that the recent poets exaggerate [Ghulu] in the praise of the Holy Prophet [saws] and while the senior [ustaad] poets did NOT do so.
i have strong objection when i hear na't reciters using popular Bollywood tunes and sometimes, shamefully, using tunes of famous bhajans [Om Jai Jagdeesh Hare]. it's despicable that they go that far. it must be condemned.
The ‘kalima Sharif’ (kalma Sharif) that i referred to is actually not a complete kalima but more of a dhikr:
version without music (very deep)
I am not big naat or nasheed listener but from those I have heard I think sometimes we can gain emotions around Islam, Allah Most Merciful and His Messenger SallAllahu Alaihi wa Alihi wa Sallam that I wouldn’t have been able to just by reading texts. I am grateful for these emotional inputs

That sounds like a terrible thing to say since I do not even believe we can exaggerate about the virtues of The Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Alihi wa Sallam.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what you mean, say your piece
See you write abbreviation [saws], do you consider that a Bidah? I have read the first person to do that was....Beheaded if I recall correctly
I was watching the Muqabala-e-Naat on one of the religious TV channel but when I heard from judges
Antra kamzoor hai, Sur kuch kam hai, Dhunn Achi thi, Allap sahih nahin tha
I changed the channel and now I do not listen to those famous names anymore......:o
